Default Torque Damper

Just moving this discussion from the 08 MIR thread. Any good ideas and input on the best place to mount, fabricating brackets, or whatever would be appreciated. I truly believe this car would benefit from a well made torque damper system do to other members experiences on dynos watching the engine jerk violently under load.

I have seen Waldig and BDJ's engine tie downs and they say they work well but i'm just concerned about mounting it on top of the SC like they have seems as thought it might crack or ruin gaskets by pulling on the top of the engine.

While I'm pretty sure BDJ's tiedown straps work great, I can't get over the asthetics. He did say they were his best traction mod to date. I'm not sure if the mounting on top of the SC is best either, but maybe if its not the only point taking the the brunt of the dampening it might be alright. Maybe making a bracket from the top of the SC to the drivers side shock mount and another underneath somewhere they may work better in tandem. Maybe have another damper hooked from the tranny to the frame too (maybe an overkill).

I looked at the engine while I was standing around at the track today and found a good candidate location. There is an EMPTY bolt hole just above and to the right of the alternator that has a clear path to the frame about 10 inches away. Down by the IC hoses. I will probably buy one of the dampners and then play around and see what I can come up with.

The alternator is on the passanger side though isn't it? I think the motor torques from drivers side to passenger and back mostly, but haven't tested this so dont qoute me just going from others statements. that why waldig and BDJ have it from the SC to the drivers side shocks

Damping shocks like car shocks work in both directions, you can't mount on either side for benefit.

Before torque damper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d8jk...eature=related

After torque damper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooXXe...eature=related

I'm thinking something like this would work. Or in a position that works for our cars better.

This is one of my projects that i will tackle after car is back up. Design is very simple and should work out well.
