Default Attn All Srt-6 Owners, I Need Help!!!

OK, here it is my fellow Crossfire owners, I brought a '05 SRT-6 with a little over 10k miles. about a year ago. I haven't really driven it all that much but when the gas get low and the light comes on, it's not responsive and it starts to sputters when you give it gas. Additonally, the check engine light come on and when you come to a stop, it starts bucking while it's idling. Funny thing about it is that after you fill up the tank, it stops and the check engine light eventually goes off after a few miles of driving it.

I took it one dealership here in BK and they replaced a couple things but the issue still remain. At 12k, I took it to another dealership in Manhattan and they gave me alot of tech talk but basically they told me that I needed a tune-up and my injectors needed to be cleaned. They tried to bang me for $854 since it's a "maintenance related" matter and is not covered under the warranty. I declined the repair b/c I wanted to get a second opinion. at 16k I took it to another dealership in the Bronx and they told me that the coils were shorted out and they also replaced my fuel pump. A day later, the problem still is not solve. I'm going to take it back in Monday until then, can somebody tell me what's going on with this damn car? Is this a common issue with the SRT-6?...HELP!!!

Sorry I haven't an answer for you. As I was reading it I kept thinking Fuel pump but if they replaced it as they said? I will get back with you if I come up with any ideas.

I think you have some type of contamination in the tank that only causes issues when almost empty. It could be water. Water floats on top and should only cause problems when close to empty. A possibility.

Souds like bad fuel possibly water in the tank from sitting around. I would change the fuel filter and run a can of fuel injector cleaner through the system a couple of times. Also it is not a great idea to run the tank really low all the time, you just may be low enough that your sucking air with the fuel and this would cause rough running and is hard on the fuel pump.

Yes I was thinking fuel pump as well. There is something on the forum about not running on empty, but I've done it when I've run out of race gas and just make it to the track with no problems. Only possible reason injectors or plugs would need to be changed if bad gas caused them to fail? Then you wouldn't have that problem only at idle? I assume no mods or tune?

I had the same issue with my old pickup truck - ran great with a full tank - at 1/2 tank it would begin to spudder, cough and idle rough.

Turned out to be a failing fuel pump. (tank mounted type)

If engine light is coming on, maybe you have a bad gas cap. Sounds
to simple, but tank is presurized when full. When you get to bottom of
tank, lack of pressure creating issue. Plus will cause engine light to come on. After filling, light will eventually go off. Just a thought.

Good call. I agree the pressure is causing this as well. That's why my fuel pump was changed. Never had the bucking though, just hard starts.

I concur.....The cap keeps everthing pressure locked and if you are getting seppage(if that's a word) then yes the CEL will trigger. Now the stumbling has to be something fuel related ie..filter,pump,injector,...air in line maybe.

even though i have never had my fuel light come on, ( to me when 1/4 tank it is time to fill up) any way i think it could have somethingto do with the fuelpick up maybe some how it got bent and is sucking air instead of fuel (which would depresureise your tank and give you a eng light,, when the englight comes on what code is it?

Agreed with all of the posters above. My first thoughts were fuel pump, water in the tank, or a pressure issue (gas cap). I was also thinking that it could be the throttle body. If that wasn't working properly, couldn't that account for the shaky starts?

I agree.... Don't take it to any more "repair" shops. They will screw you every time. Nothing electrical is going bad. The mere fact that when the tank is full and it runs fine will tell you that. Pressure problems, contamination in the tank, etc sound like the deal. And if you don't use the car much and live in a "wet" air environment, then it contributes more toward the moisture theory. Next time it gets low, test the gas left for impurities/contaminants after sloshing the gas around by running the car into some turns. Suck out some with a siphon tube. Check the gas cap for a good seal or any worn condition. Run some "good" fuel system cleaner that takes care of minor moisture issues. Check/replace the fuel filter. The fuel pump would be the last thing to check and change. I've never seen issues with the SRT6 fuel pump, but check for threads here that mention it. If the fuel pump has an embedded FPR (fuel pressure regulator), then that might be offending part. SRT4's have an FPR within the fuel canister, attached to the pump. Not sure on the SRT6 as that's the wife's car that I can't touch.

Gas cap, fuel pump/filter, or water in tank(or possibly other things got put in the tank pissed of any women or co-workers that put anything in there lol)
I'd say check the cap because that easy then go from there. Is it possible they todld you they replaced your pump and really didn't?
