1. It eliminates the "lathed" down pulley or running on the back side of a pulley. 2. With my setup the belt/tensioner was nearly at it's tightest position. This is more comfortable. 3. Provides enough belt wrap so that I haven't noticed any belt slip (yet). I spent time behind the Autozone counter and could not find a suitable smooth pulley but this works so I don't need the pulley! Thanks Ryououki! :p |

Of course I can make them faster than you can. All I have to do is speed up the engine! That will make things fly even faster! |
Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
thanks Mike...your replacement is on its way direct from Rock Auto. Let me know when you get it and if I ordered the right one...the part #'s from tighed original post, didn't match what I ordered...Rock Auto's web site took me to another #.....so let me know....thanks, again...

I did get on it and still no slipping. Works for me! Yes you will have to purchase parts. A bolt and a locking nut. 1 - M8-1.25 bolt, 75MM long

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
Is there any reason this shouldn't work for those of us who are going to be running the code3 pulley alone? Is your "for my application" just a "do at your own risk" statement, or is there more to it as well? thanks!

Heck everything I read and do from this site I mentally add "do at your own risk" to it. |

I put two grade 8 washers underneath the hex bolt head. The idler pulley bolt hole is enlarged on this side for the original bracket and I was a little concerned about the washer deforming and loosening where it is not fully supported. One good thick washer would accomplish the same thing. I put some Loctite red on the threads as well as using the locking nut. It's not going anywhere. Considering how little belt wrap is around this pulley, I don't think a bracket will be necessary to withstand the shear force. I will keep an eye on it though. This simple move definitely increases the belt wrap on the kompressor. 25-30* I'd guess. The overall belt route length works out about the same. I had to fully release the tensioner to get the belt back on. |

I had to fully release the tensioner to get the belt back on. I ended up putting the idler pulley back in its original position after I noticed some rubber wear from the belt. The alignment must have been off. I am not sure exactly where it was rubbing. I have a 62mm supercharger pulley going on eventually, so I made need to revisit the belt wrap issue to avoid slippage. That means either figuring out why moving the idler pulley was causing belt wear, or getting a Needswings pulley saver kit. |
Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
I did this and have spaced the pulley out with a washer to match the s/c and alt position and have had no issues...... I run the 62mm pulley presently. No slippage and no abnormal wear on the belt and you can retain the original belt!

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
I found this smooth pulley that looks like it might fit in place of the grooved one.

Here's a smaller one with a bolt but it doesn't say what size the bolt is.

The answer to this is buy a stock grooved pulley just like the grooved idler, then put one of them on a lathe and cut the grooves off of it. This one goes in the idler position, the grooved one goes in the new position, that way you have a setup where the belt cannot slip off. An additional support might be helpful, check my setup below.

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
So the consensus is that no one has found a smooth pulley that doesn't need to be lathed down?
I don't have access to a lathe. So if I were to buy a new stock grooved pulley who would be able top grind it down so it is smooth? A wood shop, machine shop? |

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
Tried to PM you tighed1, but your inbox is filled up.
My Poland 65mm steel pulley came in the mail and I have been reading about your DIY belt wrap kit. "Idler Pulley, NP 1202000470 (same as supercharger idler pulley) $10.30 at Rock auto.com LINK shipping is about $10 also????" So that is the correct pulley to order and the same one you have ran for 7 years? I noticed you made it smooth, is this necessary? EDIT Read through the entire thread. For one: The RockAuto part number listed does not show it being a SRT-6 supercharger idler pulley. 2: This entire thread is mainly for people running stacked pulleys. Since there was a member that tried it with a just a 65mm and the belt rubbed. Also there was a member that needed spacers. Seems like the best bet for people with just a 65mm pulley is to get the NeedsWings Pulley Saver Kit. Not sure if that is overkill or even needed with just a 65mm pulley. |
Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
My be a stupid question but is this mod only for under size SC pulleys or would it help a SC with a stock pulley.
Thanks |

Thanks This might save some people grief and injury. I read the whole post and ended up a little confused as to the correct action to be taken for an OEM set up let alone any SC pulley changes. |

Me too

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
I have the parts to do this...and even the belt. I need to talk to DJ and put them all together and sell them. The kit works. I just decided to do Rob's instead on both the cars. I have the bolt, pulley and belt for a 65 mm install, but I am sure it will work with a stock pulley as well, just need get the belt figured out.

Think it's safe to say it works! I presume your'e still running the 181/65C3? Do you have any logged boost and/or fuel cons figures at WOT? At a stretch do you have an AFR paired with any of the above figures? Stock Belt? Tune? Stock injectors? |
Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
Still running the DIY Belt Wrap on the coupe (181/65) and the vert (192 crank).
No logs but do have AFR meters to keep an eye on things. Stock belt on the coupe, little longer on the vert. Mail order tunes on both. Completely stock fuel systems. |

Re: Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
Is there a new update on the your pulley wrap. For a 65mm pulley.
List of parts needed. And part numbers if possible. THANKS |
