Default El Cheapo Heat Exchanger on my SRT6

I bought a cheap heat exchanger on Ebay for $149.00. It seems to work well during our hot *** weather here in North Fl. I took a couple of pics for yall to see. I had to use some Goodyear anti-kink coil doohickies to prevent one of my hoses from kinking, but otherwise a great buy for 150 bucks. I threw on a Johnson pump and isolated my cooling system while I was down there. The pump was new on Ebay and only 85 bucks! Almost forgot, the xtreme K&N filter is very snug, but it fits.

I'm not sure on the temp increase. The needle is a little above half-way about like normal. It has been 93-99 degrees lately so it might be a little warmer anyway. As far as my zipties,I love them too. I've held several radiators in with them before.

Very nice job. I'm an advocate of more affordable parts that give the same end result. When you pay a part specifically amde for the car you pay for R&D, proper brackets, and the MB tax. A DIY job is much more rewarding.

Good price.

could you have flipped it so the inlet/outlet was on the other side to keep you from having to run the hose to the drivers side?

DOH!
Didn't think about that! Maybe it's for the added coolant that the extra hose provides!

Now you need the Always on Coolant Pump mod LINKY

I plan to do the coolant pump mod on mine hopefully sunday.

This week, when i am home after work i am busy painting the airbox lid black and red on the hhr ss, the calipers red with black reflective HHR SS decals and i bought a spare ecu ($230) to do the aftermarket tune ($350) on it. 285+whp/290+wtq should make for a fun grocery getter.

FYI I am repeating this here for you all:
If you checked my video, the pump starts at about 1300 rpm and stays ON as long as the car runs. The supercharger clutch drops out when you come to a stop or coast 20 - 30 seconds, but he pump stays on all the time.

I had put a LED on the pump for the video to prove this to some of the skeptics.

Rev the motor to 1300+ or drive a tiny bit and it starts to never stop till the key is off.

Woody Enjoy

but does it run with just the ignition switch on (motor not running) to help cool off the supercharger while waiting to race at the track?

The answer to that would be, "NO".

Im with this guy.
Coming from the Neon world where I have been wrenching on them for the last decade, I about had a heart attack when I saw the prices some people were spending to modify parts for Mercedes/Crossfire.

Great job on the install!

There is a drain plug that sticks out about 3/4 inch. It would have poked into the radiator if I flipped it around. Plus this way I can have access to drain it. It actually has a threaded temp. sending unit fitting also on that side.

If anyone wants to know where they can find this heat exchanger, they sell them at www.siliconeintakes.com. They sometimes list on ebay also.

Yes, that would be the one. It's nice that it has a small "import" style radiator cap on it.

You inspired me to save a few hundred as well on a HE. Installation was super easy, I reused stock hoses and cut some used ones that had the nice bends. Just a FYI and encouragement for others to do the same.

Hey guys , does anyone have the dimensions of the NS supercooler ? Is the one on this install the biggest you can go besides the supercooler? I've found some other HE that are a little thicker but didn't know if they would fit. Would still like to know the Supercooler dimensions in case I do decide to go with it. Thanks
