Default Mercedes vs BMW Track Day...

I know we don't "technically" own a mercedes, but crossfires would be welcome of course .......Anyway, I am sure many of you have heard about X vs Y events (Buick Vs Ford, Mopar Vs Chevy etc....) and it got me to think, why not have a mercedes vs BMW showdown?? So I am throwing this idea out there to see who would be interested in this kind of event. We would start here in the north east at Atco as the first event. If we were to get a good response, we would travel to other tracks. This is just a thought at this point and the details have not been worked out, but we would have sponsers (hopefully), different classes, car show, prizes etc..... How far is everyone willing to travel to an event like this? To my knowledge, there is nothing out there like this. Open for discussion.......

And no, you will not have to pay yearly dues to be associated with these events. :P

It would! I just want to see if the interest is there. It will be similar to other events of this nature.......

If I go, I will provide any photos/videos I take for FREE.

I will check around on a few other sites and see who is interested. I have a friend with a mb amg sl55 that may want to go.

It will be in the northeast to start......I am probably leaning towards Atco only because they have experience running events like these with the Buick vs Ford races etc etc......C'mon man, NJ isn't that far from you! :P

You know I'm down. If the NE is where the first one will be, I definitely say Atco or MIR (Even though I know you would hate to drive to MIR). Two of the best tracks in the country, and especially the NE.

I bet that Eurocharged would make their prescence known at an event like this. This is there core business. Definitely wouldn't know about sponsors until everything gets finalized by way of date/time etc.

At the last MB track daywe had at the end of October at MIR, there were probably 50ish MB/BMWs there, and a handful of others. I would be willing to bet that something like that could draw a decent crowd...maybe 100 cars. Which would not be too many and you would still be able to get a ton of runs in.

Would you just do open runs, for best ET/MPH in a class (i.e. 3-series v C/CL-class / 5-series v. E-class / 6-series v. SL-class / 7-series v. S-class / BMW Zs v SLK/SRT6 )

...or would you do heads up racing? or how about bracket racing?

i'm just throwing ideas out there, of how you can truly get a "winner" out of it instead of just another track day.

That sounds like a lot of fun, and though the Crossfire is a Mercedes, I have to say I like BMW's better. But that still sounds very fun!!!

Matt,

I will call you regarding a possible partnership with this. I know I wont be able to do this alone. This will require a ton of work to make it a good event that could grow. I would like to get this going on both the MB and the BMW boards as well. Eurocharged would be the first one I'd call! The event would be strictly Mercedes and BMW's. This is a showdown if you will. lol. If your car has MB or BMW parts on it, you are welcome. No stragglers. They are more than welcome to come to the event, but to enter would require you drive a MB or BMW. Also, although this would be a fun day, it would also be a very competitive day for both parties. There will be cash prizes to the winners in each event and maybe a nice trophy for the winners of the car shows? As for race classes, something like this.....

-Bracket Classes (Open to all MB and BMW's) 3 classes......
12.99 - UP
10.00 - 12.99
10.00 - Under - If there are not enough cars under 10 sec, then they would be moved to the next bracket up which would be the 10.00-12.99 bracket. Depending on the response, I may add another bracket......

Heads Up Classes would have to be worked on, but would include of course N/A, FI etc etc....

The car show would be for fun. No money involved, but maybe some prizes/trophies given out.

I am just throwing some ideas out for now. Matt, I will call you at some point.

You know the only thing that would really suck? I would be the promotor so I wouldn't be able to run my car in the event!! Oh well, I will have fun watching it. lol

You couldnt win??? Timeslip proves the winner... Only in judging... then you would have to disqualify yourself on judging... maybe...

Promoters usually don't enter the contest Mikey. There would be too much work to do the day of/during the event to enter anyway. Like I said, I don' want this to be just another "track rental day". I would like to think that this could grow every year and be the real deal.

I take it that this is just a 1/4 mile event that you are mulling over?

I would prefer an event on a real road course, as those show how the car and drive work together as a team better than who can build more hp, and get it to the ground.

Lap times has a better ring to my ears than 1/4 mile times.

BC.

BMW vs Mercedes will be a 1/4 mile drag race.

Watch out for those modded N54 motors, they are really powerful. They will give even the most highly modified SRT6 a run for its money.
