The endless pursuit of the perfect intake…
As I was installing the new SL55 set up, my girlfriend says…"isn’t this like the 5th one of these you have had?"…she has a pretty good memory. I thought I would share my history of intakes…

Though still trying to figure out what to do since the y-pipe is missing the bottom clip... /shrug...
Loving the Devil Horns also, where did you get them and do they make a noticeable difference??? Hitcha up on Fbook a while back to see if you needed stereo help on the doors, lemme know if ya still do!
Peace,

Each intake is different..I love the needswings for the ease of install and the fit and finish. I also like to be able to hear the supercharger whine with it.
The code 3 intake mod was fun, the supercharger whine was loudest with it, but performance was not up to par.
The SL55 seems to have the same performance gains of the needswings, plus a balanced look under the hood. The downfall is making the brackets fit, plus not even a hint of supercharger whine
...something interesting though...the exhaust sounds different with this set up. It has a deeper tone/ growl to it. Sounds nice!Kolme...
I would think the y pipe would be fine missing the bottom clip, the top should do the job. Rob at Needswings can make the "devil horns" for you and TVT can make the 3" tubes to replace the plastic SL55 stockers.
Not doing any stereo mods at the moment, but thanks for the offer to lend a helping hand buddy. I hope school is going well, I am on vacation this week if you want to swing by and mess with your intake.

Haha I forgot its the winter (performance time!)... And ahhhh Rob's got em, I may have to hit him up and buy a pair as well as those 3" tubes... the setup just looks sooooo incredibly MEAN.
Yep, school is going eh, ok, haha. Life at college is soooo fun when your going for a Biology/Spanish double major...
... And hey! That actually sounds like a really awesome idea if your up for it! I'm not sure when the best time would be for you, but im basically open for whenever (minus the 31st ofcourse)... I can even come hangout with ya today if your open!.. BUT Lost your phone number in a fatal phone accident

my setup is closest to # 6. the big difference is i kept the oem boxes. gutted everything and used k&n's.
rob does a great job with the devil horns, and if you have access to some tubing the tubes can be made very cheap. i have less than 300$ in mine now complete with the sl55 y splitter and tubes
i was able to keep my centerpiece and still get great airflow.
i guess great minds think alike!!

haha I do remember alot, the 335i is awsome simply because you can get a tune and it'l go like a bat out of hell, but if you want to be the big boss dawg then you gota go for the M5
Shame you dont get whine with the SL55 intake because I think it looks the best out of the lot.
Krazy did you gut your stock intake boxes or did you buy SL55 intakes and gut them?

the main reason i didnt go 55 boxes was the loss of the center cover. the 55 are bigger and flow better but i need looks as well as performance. netting 341 rwhp im satisfied with the setup and will be using maxbore to enlarge the t/b to 77 mm in the near future. with some exhaust mods coming im hoping for 350 rwhp with another retune from tony.

Nice work, you dont have any pictures on the site do you? I'd love to do that but I'm just worried about if I ever have to sell the car the original boxes wont be so original anymore!

i wouldnt worry about the oem boxes. you can reinstall the silencers if the removal is careful but theres always a bunch of them for sale on the m/b forums
Very clean man, love how you've done it, you know at the back how we have to plug in that little pipe from the mini valve cover, I wonder for drag racing if it would be smart to unplug that let the car get access to instant air rather then the delay of getting it from the intake.

Doing a few tweeks and waiting for the tracks to open in spring..
I think they are pretty darn close... the last run in the Aero with the SL55 and no devil horns was 12.07 @114mph..... so on the right day..
I do have the best of both worlds... I have both the NW Dual and the SL55...
