Default My DIY Dual CAI. *Pics*

Well after some long research/labor i was finally able to finish my dual intake setup.i had a single for a few weeks (which was pretty easy ). Now its not the prettiest thing yet, but it DEF gets the job done. I got some help from forum memeber which i greatly appreciate. Cost about $300-$350. Would i do it again? ummm maybe. it took longer than i expected and i had to work with what i had. labor was about 8-10 hrs. My rookie mistake was getting HUGE oval K&N filters. This made it difficult to get it to clear the grill and also have the horns fit.

Review? I love these things. i can now hear the supercharger whine and first gear is pretty much useless. Throttle response has improved and if i were to guess i would say a 20-25 hp increase.... but then again its just a guess. i want to thank the forum and its members for helping me complete my project. I used a lot of pics from members galleries to get this done.

on the drivers side under the headlight is a part of the front frame which has 2 holes in it perfect for your horn relocation. clip the tiewrap holding the wires and its plenty long enough.
props to woody for this easy relocation!
btw nice looking setup!

Ya my filters were rather large also had to "modify" the back of the grill insert to open up the airflow and allow them to fit. Only difference i see was i used some 3 inch fuel filler hose to go through the open spots next to the radiator. They were flexible and form fitting to let those pipes move around a little when the engine torques. Never could make hard Y pipes for the inlet of the throttlebody had to stick with the Silcone Y because that motor moves around so much.

A custom intake on these cars really makes the difference in sound and power.

Good looking job you've done there. Just curious, does having the filters in front of the radiator cause any heating issues?

really nice work. would you by any chance be able to post instructions and where you got all your stuff. I'd personally like to make mine. I just think it would be a fun project. I would probably run straight pipes to the front rather than the bent but in any event it was a nice piece of work

he took 2 90 * bends and cut them then bonded them together ala woody's first prototype
another way to go is order the sl55 y intakes with tubes. 135$ on parts .com

Old thread, I know.

I am going to attempt a DIY intake this weekend.

I know a place local that has all sorts of hose and rubber materials. So from the pictures, it seems as if I would need two (2) 90* elbows and some 3" piping and possibly a silicone coupling to join the piping if necessary.

Any help on the size elbow needed to attach securely on the throttle body and also preferred filter? Any other help is greatly appreciated.

- Only going to build a single piped intake here.

Thanks!!

Very nice work. I had the same issue with the filters on my NA. Its a tight fit but after some tinkering I got everything to fit including the horns.

should be easy to do if you have the parts. Plenty of info on the forum from others that have done it too. Please paste pics
