Default missing 19 hp

I have searched for an answer to this and havn't found one. Wouldn't this be a simple (I can't believe I actually said that) way to increase the preformance of the car?

To partially quote;

Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 - Road Test

Chrysler gives its Crossfire a swift kick. You may need to bring a fanny cushion.

I want to know what happened to the 19 horsepower that didn't make the jump over to Chrysler's SRT-6. Just because the engine isn't in a Mercedes, it automatically has to lose power? I remember fondly the closely related full-powered, 349-hp SLK32 AMG, primarily because it was scary fast. The SRT-6's 330 horsepower is nothing to sneeze at, but stomp on the accelerator through the kickdown switch, and it just doesn't fly at other cars' rear ends the way the SLK32 did. Perhaps it was the larger wheels, or the green engine in our test car, but with the rest of the vehicle so uncompromised, you don't expect to make any concessions.

More than likely Mercedes did a tune or should I say de-tune. Fortunately, we're able to reverse by re-tuning! It shows, with only minor modifications you're able to make a major difference in RWHP/Torque.

Bottom line.... Crank HP as reported by the manufacturer is basically whatever they want to market. For whatever reason, Chrysler decided that 330 was the number that they wanted to put on their marketing material. As far as the differences between the 2 cars, I have raced an SLK32 through a couple of stages of modifications where we have both had the same mods done, and the end result so far has been that we are always within an tenth of each other.

There has been no magical de-tuning of the SRT engine, and the SLK is not a 19HP more powerful car.

It has been speculated that Merc wouldn't let Chrysler market the SRT-6 as the same horsepower as the SLK32, which was considerably more enspensive. Therefore Chrysler advertised the Crossfire as 330 BHP, although both engines are identical.

The answers above summed it up pretty much... Bob (BMorgan) and myself, as he mentioned, have done several comparisons. Turned out when we went in for out dyno-tune, that I made 20 hp more than him before tune, hence the spec difference. After tune, he made 4hp more... So from what I can tell, they detune the Crossfire to make it spec lower than the MB. No biggie, in the end, the XF takes to mods and tuning better...
