Is this a 100% drop in replacement for our engines (SRT) or will there be issues?

Smart guys?

Darn it, three months ago I came across a complete Crossfire on our local Bay Area Craigslist for only $900, it was missing just the engine and trans.

It's cheaper than what a Dealer wants just for the SC alone!

I almost want to buy it just because it would be so easy to mod before slipping it in.

Krazy, Since it is the engine only and no electronics, shouldnt any SRT/SLK32 ECU should work with it??
Without electronics there is nothing for the ECU to read that it would object to. The only possibility would be the throttle body. But I know that isnt a problem since I switch mine between the SSB and Aero with no issue. Just curious.....

i was thinking the engine is tied to the ecu by vin #. the ecu is specific to the car by vin and engine to the car by vin. could be wrong i have been before!

That's actually the AMG built MB version. After 2002, they have the builder plates on them.

Correct, he somewhat improperly labeled the ad. You'll notice that the valve covers also say AMG and not SRT.

If you took the ecu, sensors, injectors, etc from your existing motor and swap them to the new motor it should fire right up. When you change the engine to something different than what was stock (v8, NA to SRT swap) all the electronics would need to be carried over to the new engine and be programmed to the car.

I agree with MikeR, I would think it would be just a drop in since all the factory electronic components are the same from ( stock ) engine to engine you dont have to relearn a cps, a new fuel injector, a throttle body, a new iat sensor, or any thing else you would replace if it had failed and match it to your ecu. I have never heard of the ecu being vin matched to the motor other than being matched to the original design functions of the cars particular electronics, as in like a V8 ecu v/s a V6 ecu.
