SRT6 or ?
Greetings... The time has come to sell my beloved 1990 limited edition Mustang convertible. Wife wants something with better manners, so that she can drive it. The racing clutch and 320 RWHP are a bit much for her.
That said, I told her I would be willing to go a 1998 cobra, C5 vette or a SRT6. The only one she likes is the SRT6. I am an old school V8 muscle car guy (have had 5 v8 mustangs) and do not know if the SRT6 will float my boat. I know that I will get a basised opinion in this forum,
but am open to comments.
Also, what else is out there in the 15k - 20k range that will compete with the SRT6 in performance and style.

Post your location and perhaps someone local with an SRT will let you check out their car.
I saw a guy yesterday at Lowes checking out my car and we ended up talking for over an hour and took a drive. He called me last night and talked about the car for over an hour! He wants one now!
The SRT-6 will produce more RWHP with just a couple of mods (pulley, CAI, and tune). These mods will get you a high 11 to low 12 sec 1/4 mile car. Having said that, the speed of the SRT-6 is more refined and deceptive than a GT. You will not have the same V-8 growl or sense of torque that you have in a GT. It is always lots of fun to beat a GT at the track, and have people come over to see what you have under the hood.
The SRT does not have the same aftermarket for performance mods as the Mustang, but unless you are wanting a 10 sec. car, you cannot beat the SRT for bang for the buck HP. I have owned many V-8 performance cars i.e. Mustang, Corvette, Firebird..... and I would not give up my SRT for any of the afore mentioned cars.
There were only 928 of the SRT Roadsters, and 2036 SRT Coupes built for the world. Many of these are in Germany, England, Canada, Australia, Africa, UAE, etc. so they are a fairly rare commodity here in the states. I can guarantee you that you will get a lot more attention in the SRT than you ever would in the Mustang.
Good luck with your decision.

For the price you will have a hard time finding something that can perform and look like the Srt-6. A low demand (for whatever reason) keeps the prices where they are. Its a well kept secret. Not too many people are aware that this car even exists. I guess the auto tranny keeps some enthusiasts away. The looks arent for everyone and usually appeals to an older crowd. It all depends what you are looking for. Sure there are cars that can go faster or have a potential of going faster but the srt is a very civilized and reliable performer. Its also a very nice looking car. Only con would be its space and practicality.
theres only 1 car out there thats better looking and runs as fast for the $.. thats the slk32!!! call it the big brother of the srt-6 but you get a hardtop AND a vert for the same price. luxurious interior and the same kick in the pants.
fwiw i have smoked maore than a few stangs on the track and off. theres always someone faster but killing an 03 cobra with a blower in my 3.2 litre s/c v-6 always makes me smile!

cruise down to murfreesboro tn next fri nite. cruise in there every fri. ill take you out in my slk32 and im sure 13dog will drop the hammer on his srt-6 for you!
The SRT6 always attracts attention where ever I go. I have only seen another SRT6 once going down the road. You cannot say that about a Mustang or a Vette for that matter.Acceleration is breath taking especially at speed. The car has good road manners and seems to ride better the faster it goes. My only complaint is the blind spot out the back. What after market there is you will find on this site.

One possible downside of the SRT6 is that it is an automatic trans only car.
I used to have a non SRT6 crossfire that was a 6-speed (traded it in for the SRT6), and overall I had more fun with the lower horsepower motor with the 6-speed than the higher horsepower motor with an auto.
Where I live, unless you are on the freeway, speed limits are usually 35mph and the roads are curvy making it much more fun with a manual.
The way I look at it is driving the manual is fun more than 80% of the time, and the supercharger is fun less than 20% of the time.
But, when you floor the SRT6, watch out! That 20% is worth quite a bit!
Good luck.

LOL The SLK32 and the SRT share the same AMG engine, transmission, suspension and braking components. Even many of the interior parts are identical. The SRT is basically an SLK32 with a different Karmann body on it.

the srt6 will handle night and day better and with a simple cold air intake will make about the same whp than your mustang yet be friendlier to drive.

lmao.........................
I've had my SRT6 for 4 1/2 years. I have never owned a car for more than 2! Traded a BMW Z4 in on the SRT6, best move ever.
All I can say is "Try it, you'll like it". BTW your lady is one smart cookie. LOL
