Talking Now that is fat and I am glad to see it

Well I have been trying to get more grip on the C, and finally seem to have found the path to that end. I have been autocrossing the front with 245's on 18" rims all round.

I got my ebay goodies and put them on to see that it worked. Now 255/35/18's are on the front now and they are clear or the fender and body, yeah. I will have to check them out at the next race but my math was correct, the 35 profile allows these to fit well. The rears are either 18 or 19s at 275 depending on the track and typw of event.

So if you wanna get more grip, the 255s are an option for ya. I may get the time to get a photo later on, Enjoy.

Woody

What was wrong with the staggered setup? Were you just trying to make the car more nuetral at the limit?

With the stock rims and 275's on the back my car would plow through turns it was very un-nerving. I dont think it was an issue with the swaybars they used but more the heavier front end on smaller tires verses the lighter back end on wder tires. The stock shocks seemed to have alot of understeer set-up fromt he factory.

Iam trying to limit under steer, added the koni adjustables to that purpose. The bigger tires in the front are an attempt to get the car to turn and not push off line and off course. THe front does not turn and needs all the help it can get. Ive adjusted the camber to be reasonable matching the mustang and corvette average specs as a starter.

THe back 275s are to try and get some traction, but I have not tried to max out the width. Ultimately when I run thru my tires Id like to run 255/18s on all 4 corners so that they can be rotated for wear and life. 255s are a probable good choice and all tires at 18" allow more flexability. The 275 tire in the back is not much bigger than the 255 that came with it, works out to about 3/4 to 7/8 of an inch bigger.

Enjoy, Woody

Hi Woody:

I hope some time in the future you post more info on how you got the 255's on the front. (offsets, bolt shaving, pics, etc.) I'd love to do the same. If you want to get some of the push out of the front all you have to do is lower the back, if you haven't already. That helped my car more than anything else I tried. I have no rake at all (exact same height front and rear) and while the car looks better with a little rake, it handles better without it. My biggest problem in autocross is the s-l-o-w steering. My car is slightly loose right now ...... and when I enter a corner too fast I get a 4 wheel drift ..... unless I'm still on the brakes.

Let's all chant together "I want 255's I want 255's I want 255's"

Les

I am most likely wrong, but it is my own speculation that the upper control arm nut will preclude mounting 255's up front. Will not the nut shread the tyres sidewall unless wheel spacers are employed?

Kindly confirm or alleviate my concerns.

Regards.

Just to be safe, I rounded the nut to keep it from being sharp, minor grinder issue.

I have 8.5 x 18 rims, the amg style wheels available on the ebay listings and they are 35 mm offset. I run 10 mm spacers and tried the fit up WITHOUT the spacers. They fit, gotta check that more to be safe. These are runflat tires and the guy said that they were the easiest mounting RF tires he has seen.

DOC got me to go to walmart for 10$ balance and mount plus 1.5$ per wheel for disposal of the dead slicks I had.

Going to summit point tomorrow for a track day and will do photos after I get back. This weekend I have the last autocross event and I figure that the stock tires on the car will be worn off enough to toss them. Have 20000 and still look good, but are hard and a full power pass was tough to steer with for the 45 degree temp. road and tires spun into third, not a pretty thing to deal with. So Ill get some more newbees soon, yippi on that too. Woody
