Default Left turn shift.

Strange problem. My auto stick downshifts perfectly but is very sensitive up-shifting. It's getting worse, a slight bump in the positive direction and it shifts up. I could live with that, no biggie.

Starting last week or so if I have the car in 2nd during spirited driving and take a sharp left, the car will bog and I'll look down and be in Drive.

It's like the + shift contact is so sensitive it gets bumped multiple times by the transmission moving around a little.

Any ideas to remedy this? I guess try to get at the contacts?

Not the end of the world, but shouldn't be.

Strange as it may sound, check your motor and transmission mounts.

Sounds like motor or transmission mounts are giving out. It lets the motor torque over and pull the shift cable. Could also be a worn shift cable detent.

Ok I'll check the mounts. However, I do believe it is so sensitive the weight of the shift **** is doing it.

I will get under there this evening and pry on the mounts, see if they are shot. 82K miles now!

Could be the cable or the detent device. That is one of the things that make it click or lock into the gear position you select.

Around 69k both motor mounts and tranny mount were completely destroyed on my car... Of course I didn't have this "shift" issue, my shift lever moved forward/back every time I accelerated. Still could be your issue. The trans mount is a DIY, the motor mounts are a pain.

Thanks, I'm working on it right now. I just came in to get some more info. Jimmyskulls recomended sliding the shifter assemby over to center the contacts. It does have slotted mounting holes. Trying to see if I missed a screw, it's not co-operating...

I REALLY hope you are still on here because 12 years later and its now my issue in my SRT. I got the car March 2021 and had no issues right away but after about 3 months I had the same issue appear - any slight pressure to the right results in complete shifting (usually) to DRIVE from whatever gear I'm in while using the auto-shifter function and ESPECIALLY in left turns...so I have resorted to keeping slight left pressure to compensate.

What was your fix? Is it misalignment in the shifter... or something to do with transmission mounts? My mount snapped so I had the dealership replace it along with engine mounts and this problem still exists.

It was many years ago. I think I removed the trim from around the shifter and loosened the mounting screws, pushed the assembly away from the offending side and tightened it all down. It did fix the problem.

As tunaglove indicated, this is generally a case of the the top half of the shifter housing "shifting" to the side (normally happening during re-assembly due to internal preload). There are 4 torx (t-25 security torx IIRC) screws that you wil need to loosen during this "realignment"
Here is the excerpt from the paddle shift install instructions that addresses this in detail.

"As you re-install the four (4) screws that hold the shifter top on, be aware that internal shift lever preload will tend to make the top half of the shifter want to settle to the driver’s side during re-assembly if not positioned in “D”. So, it is best if you put the shifter in “D” before you tighten the securing screws AND line up the securing screws with the indentations they made (in the plastic) during the original assembly process (as a reference for proper positioning)."
Cheers,
Chris
