Default Rough Idle and Limp Power

Easwaiting at a red light today and the car started shaking rather violently. As I was waiting I shifted into neutral to blip the throttle, hoping it would snap out of it, but the tach wouldn't make it past 1000 RPM. I was able, very slowly, to he into the parking lot where I was turning. After coming out, it started up and everything worked as it should. The car is an SRT with 32000 miles. What gives?

Or it could be the crankshaft position sensor starting to go... did you get a CEL?

I did not get a light. Drove about 50 miles after that all together and didn't have any more problems. I suppose I will wait until it happens again before I am too alarmed.

this sounds exactly what mine was doing.
No check engine light ever. So, today dealer installed a new PCM...really glad it was under warranty.

Could be the CPS. Have Autozone (or similar) check for fault codes.
Just cuz it's working now doesn't mean it won't happen again.
Buy one (CPS) and carry the required tools in case you get stranded.

Since this has happened, driving at any speed, interstate or around 45, I notice very infrequent, subtle little lurches in the car. Nothing too alarming, but I do feel it. Does this help to determine what the problem may be?

Again, I was on the interstate today going about 75 when I felt a rather violent jerk forward from the car. I'm not looking to fix this myself, but want an idea of what is going on before I take it somewhere.

Spoke with a "Crossfire Tech" from nearby Franklin, TN today. After describing the issue to him, he immediately mentioned the IC pump to the supercharger. I am aware this is a common issue, but does this sound legit from the symptoms I have listed? Thanks!

If your getting limp power check the electric plate. Ur input and output speed sensors may be failing. Sounds like it to me.

Not sure if anyone was actually following this thread, but my problem turned out to be the notorious IC pump to the supercharger. Replaced (at a disgusting price) and everything is running smoothly. Just glad not to have to worry with it any longer. Cheers!

Ic pump replacement is a 20min job so only expense should be the johnson pump.

After the replacement of the IC pump back in February, everything has been dandy, until tonight. Started the car and was greeted by that same rough idle and no power above 1,000 RPM. Put it in drive and the engine killed after a few feet. Was luckily in my church parking lot. Restarted and the same thing happened. Let it rest, and restarted and everything was fine. This is the exact same thing that was going on before. Please don't tell me the new pump went bad!!! Any ideas?

You may need to get out the soldering iron.
Others can comment more on that procedure. I haven't done it yet.

Please look under the throttle body at the rubber flange assembly, it will do this and flex in and out. Should be able to sense a leak or hear it, cause your only 20. Let us know. Woody

Yeah that, I had my car go into limp mode one time and once completely shut off while going about 40mph, few minutes with a soldering iron and no more probs.

You had two different problems going on at the same time. Yes, your IC pump was bad, that was why you would get intermittent power while cruising. The shaking, rough idle is usually a bad crank shaft position sensor. They don't always go bad all at once, but will give a warning from time to time. Under $50, and it will need replaced sometime...so I would go there next and see if it helps. Cam shaft sensors can go bad as well, but not usually the culprit 90% of the time...

Thanks for the responses guys, however I am a newbie so would someone mind directing me to a forum where it explains checking the throttle body in elementary terms?

Also, oledoc2u, I remember seeing something about the crank shaft sensor when I researched this earlier this year. Is this something I could rather easily replace myself? Thanks.
