Code 3 supercharger idler pully neeeded
I have a slk32 with a code 3 supercharger pulley kit on it. Apparently this kit came with a modified idler pulley on it. This installation removes the grooved pulley and replaces it with a smooth pulley. It requires the belt to go under this pulley instead of over the top.
This idler pulley has shed half the bearings in it anyone know where i can get the aftermarket idler pulley the bearing is not coming out of the pulley.
The car runs in Denver at 5000ft above sea level so do I really need that special idler pulley to match the smaller code 3 supercharger pulley? I put the stock idler pulley on for now seems ok but i'm afraid the belt might slip.

Hiya Hammertimeslk32. I've been running the Code 3 pulley for a few years now, using the stock idler
pulley. I've not had any problems with belt slippage. I see no dust or abnormal wear on my belt.

if you got the pulley saver kit from needswing it uses napa pulleys. simply email rob and ask for the part # and go to napa. should be about 20$
Darned if I didn't jinx myself with my earlier post on this thread. Started hearing a good bit of noise
from under the hood early last week, and when I popped the hood and listened close, it sounded like
the idler pulley (#8 in the PSK diagrams). Wasn't sure that it wasn't the supercharger pulley, so I first
pulled that and replaced with the stock unit. Still heard that singing.
I ordered the Pulley Saver Kit from NeedsWings on Thursday, and had the box in hand on Saturday.
The instructions were pretty easy to follow, and I installed that kit this morning. So far, all seems
well. I only problem I had was while bolting in the very last bolt, which olds the exahust gas tubing
in place. It is a very tight space between where the nut for the bolt goes, and the #8 pulley. And,
the bolt is long enough that, if I didn't add a second washer on the front side, it would have been
rubbing against the belt. It was very difficult to get the nut on, as there was no real way to hold on
to it, except by finger tips of both hands. Obviously, this needed another solution.
I took at 7/16th wrench, and used scotch tape to hold the nut in place in the open end of the wrench,
and that was sufficient to properly line up the nut so the bolt would take a bite and screw in. BTW,
that was a replacement nut, as I'd lost the original when trying to hold it into place to get the bolt
started. Not sure where that other nut ended up. Still haven't found it, but it doesn't seem to be
anywhere in or on the motor. Oh, and watch out for those sping clips that hold the fan in place.
I had one of those pop off while trying to press it into place. Took me a while to find that.
Test drive and reinspection afterwards would seem to indicate that all is holding together. I would
recommend this kit be used at any time you hear an original pulley bearing going bad (at least any of
those replaced by the kit).
