Default Battery Replacement?

Not sure where to put this as it didn't seem to fit any of the "Technical Section" categories. I double posted here and the Off Topic section where I responded to an older thread. So.....like the title says.

My son left the headlights on overnight in my SRT6 over the weekend. The battery is the original OEM unit from 2005, now about 8 years old but with only 35,000 miles on it.

Anyway, the car won't start (obviously) but won't take a jump either. Hint, no spark from the negative jumper when grounded to the chassis or even the terminal (yep, went there).

I'm thinking it's not worth trying to put a charge on the old battery. It may not be reliable after that sort of stress with the age.

So, I checked the Sears website for a DieHard and all they list for the Crossfire is a single battery ($149.99) for "V6-3199 3.2L SOHC". Are the batteries for the Base, Limited, and SRT6 all the same?

OK did some research...........

Advance | Autocraft Gold | 48H6 | 770 CCA | $135.99

Autozone | Duralast Platinum | H6-AGM | 730 CCA | $159.99

Autozone | Duralast Gold | H6-DLG | 600 CCA | $135.99

Sears | Die-Hard Gold | H6/48 | 730 CCA | $149.99 | Apparently not available/sold in CT. Environmental???

Opinions? Other options?

Looks like the Autocraft Gold is the best deal. Anyone have experience with the brand or Advance as a retailer?

Just make sure you check 'retailmenot.com' for a coupon code, I saved a huge chunk o money when I bought my truck battery a few months ago.

I ended up going with the.....

Advance | Autocraft Gold | 48H6 | 770 CCA | $135.99

They were close by and had the battery in stock. It seems to get decent ratings from consumer reports. From what I can tell, this is yet another private label product from Johnson Controls.

The fit was a perfect drop in for the battery tray and the clamp-n-cables also fit without any problem. No handles on this battery though. Not a big deal but the handles were a nice touch on the OEM battery. Also, no catch can for the vent holes so, like everyone else I just reused the one off the OEM battery. It did come with the red cover for the positive terminal.

Given that this SRT6 never sees extreme cold and lives life between a garage at home and a parking garage at work, I'm thinking any decent quality battery will last a good long time. I can't believe the OEM battery made it 7.5 years!!!

napa 9848. i think i've said this before in a 'non-costcutting' kind of way (which some on here are prone...to-this is a fricking' mercedes, not a ford taurus).

Hmmm......the Autocraft 48H6 has better electrical specs, weighs 4.5 lbs less and saved me $70. Time will tell about longevity. The NAPA 9848 does have the handles though.

I know it's a Mercedes but there's no need to be a spendthrift to impress my German built starter or that funky Becker nav radio head unit.
