Roush Mustang
Out for a Saturday drive with the wife in Grand Rapids MI. Passed a nice looking convertible which pulled up next to me at the light, about 10' behind and alongside me, in the left lane. I looked around and saw the Roush tag on his fender. Light changed and he floored it -- I heard the roar. As he came even I nailed the accelerator, squealed the tires, and stayed dead even with him until about 60 when I backed off because of a curve and second stoplight. The only problem was a loud screaming noise as I accelerated. I eventually traced it to my wife. I think I can claim a tie, which is pretty good for a 7-year old car against a fairly new Mustang with, what, 400-500 hp?
A 6 cyl Roush??? RU sure?

I was just confirming the fact that Roush can mean anything from mild V6 to crazy SC V8. If the best word to describe the one encountered was "roar" I'd venture to guess it was at least a V8.
But also, [V8] Mustangs can made to be sound absolutely mean with just some simple exhaust mods so again there's probably no way to know what was encountered.... but regardless, beating on a Mustang is still always good for a grin

^^^^ This.
I'll even run the newest Cobras, 50% chance he's a **** driver and I get the jump. The other 50% says I get stomped when he hooks and puts a bus-length on me.

Now THAT is funny.
If you have a tune and some minor mods on the SRT6, you could keep up with and out-handle a stock 2011+ Mustang-GT. Power to weight ratio and the tendancy for the Mustang GT to be more tail-happy than the Xfire rounding the same corner at the same rough speed. I feel more confident driving a RWD SRT6 vs the Mustang. I should know since I have a 2012 Mustang GT too. Even with the suspension dialed in and lowered on KW-V3s, frame brace, Hotchkis sway bars, 275R+255F tires, 3" Magnaflow exhaust, and more, the SRT6 still feels more competent, even in stock form, with just the KW suspension...... That is, until I put the Whipple 2.3L blower on the Mustang next year, if it's in the cards, and my job holds out.
SRT6 - love the braking and handling
Mustang - love the roar and screeching tires in the first 4 gears

Yep,, drove one recently myself. Impressive but not on the level of the SRT6 Crossie.
Too much chassis weight.

The thing about Mustangs are for me anyway , that they are dime dozen , i do likle the look of them but again dime a dozen , the after market on them far as mods , are everywhere , hell for 1000 bucks you can easly get another 100hp out of them, not much of twisty mtn. road car , one hell of 1/4 mile car , I must say now that i have the Corvette most don;t play , and there are few i don;t won;t to play with either , but the truth is if you are car guy you going to like the Mustangs. They look good they are fast and easy to mod , and everybody has one LOL !!!

I love the Mustang, because it's an icon. Same for the Corvette, and I'm far from a GM fan.
The current gen Camaro is trying too hard to be a transformer... It simply does nothing for me. Add that to the years it dropped out of the game, GM's incompetence as a car company, and that's that.
Challenger is perhaps the most accurate "retro" muscle car we have out right now, but it's OMG heavy. The 392 package (white/blue stripes) is one I would own in a heartbeat. Gorgeous car.
That said, I still love the SRT and honestly don't yearn for anything else at the moment. Always subject to change.

Yep, agree with all of this!
I'm actually not much of a fan of American-made cars, period. I think all things considered, Ford and Chevy do pretty good jobs building trucks, but I'd prefer a foreign car (or even van) in most situations.
GM's incompetence is pretty striking, though. It's like they occasionally build a "winner" by accident, and then proceed to screw it all up by the time the model is due for a refresh or revision.
My "daily driver" is currently a 2011 Cadillac CTS coupe, and while it's in many ways, an example of "the best GM can do" - I want to barf every time I see them call it the "new standard of the world". Fact is, it's WAY too heavy, making it "more show than go" in sportiness. But rather than addressing that and making it a real contender, GM opted to start over with this new, slightly smaller ATS sedan instead. And I'm sorry, but that car looks BORING compared to my CTS coupe. The commercials during the Olympics with them racing one on a windy road course just looked completely out of place. I'm thinking, "The only customers for this car are going to be people who aren't even capable of driving like that without going right off the road into a ditch."
And in typical GM fashion, their only answer to the CTS's sluggishness is "Buy our CTS-V then!" So yeah... offset all the design issues with a huge-*** engine that gets terrible gas mileage, runs your insurance rates through the roof, and makes the initial sticker price as high as something like a Dodge Viper or Corvette. No thanks!
I did a custom tune on mine, put on a catch can and breather kit, and have a few other mods on the way to make it a little peppier -- but yeah, I won't bother with anything else GM has to sell me, next time I'm in the market for another car.
