Default Dyno'd today at Buckhead Imports

I happened to be in the Atlanta area and decided to stop by Buckhead Imports and get the car dyno'd and possibly dyno-tuned.

As you can see in the photos, the place is full of high-dollar rides, so the Crossfire fit right in. Anyway, my favorite was SL65 AMG (twin turbo V12) which produces insane amounts of HP and TQ stock (over 600 and 700 respectively).

As for the dyno, this thing should be called "heart breaker", as it's numbers are very conservative or "realistic" to say the least. Anyway, here you go.

Dyno Dynamics are notorious for reading low compared to a Dyno Jet. They read so low there are even online calculators to convert their readings to other dynos. I'm not even going to touch some lame correction on my numbers, but take a look at the info below for shi7's and giggles.

300 HP on the Dyno Dynamics is supposedly 339 on a Dyno Jet.

That SL is probably ridiculous! That thing is tiny to have that much power!

Its better the dyno is on the low side though, it would suck to get a high reading and be dissapointed later. You have a very bad beast there sir .

Very good torque number.
I'm hoping to get my car there next week for a re-tune (NW manis installed) and a couple of pulls. I need to find a camera that records video so I can post it up.
My last dyno was on a dynojet... I wonder what this one will read?

Did you get a tune or did you just get the numbers?

Actually I ended up just having it dyno'd. Tony took a look at the data (from the dyno) and felt there really wasn't any power left on the table. With that being said, I'm running on possibly the 10th revision and have sent in numerous data-logs to the original tuner to get where I am now.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have just gotten a dyno-tune from Buckhead and called it a day. Much less stress and aggravation with a similar result. It also doesn't hurt that they are only 4 hours away either. Moreover, they tuned Steve's car and he ran an 11 the same day (for the first time). Not bad.

By the way, do you ever run your XF at the track??

Your 1/4 mile trap speed tells me all I need to know. You get a pass on the 1/2 for being down on boost and running handicapped.
I'm glad you posted the numbers for comparison purposes. Trophy dyno number cars never seem to make it to the track.

I seriously need to get down there and get some numbers as well, and you couldn't ask for a better group of guys.

Since mine is a basic "flash" tune, I'm sure there is some growing room.

Wanna play with the exhaust first though (need more cowbell) so I'll do that first.

Fantastic numbers my brother.

I wanted to get a before and after dyno for the 62mm sc pulley but sounds like taking it to the track is the only real way. Do you guys think it would be beneficial to dyno it before and after to compare? I really need to get some afr readings after so I can get a custom re-tune.

its a simple tool. baseline dyno tells you were the car is at as it sits. install the mods then dyno again. this tells you the inc in power as well as afr timing and iat. tuner reads the dyno charts and adjusts the tune. dyno again and see what if any gains to be had. once the tuner is satisfied with the car its time to go to the track. thats the REAL test. if all goes well and you run good life is sweet and the chicks dig it. if not back to the dyno and add more go fast stuff. back to the track. break a few weak parts and regroup.
i spent 6 hrs on the dyno at buckhead. dyno'd lower than i ever did and faster a p/b of 11.9 that nite , backed it up with another 11.9 in 80* heat the next day 200 miles away at a different track.

its a neverending circle!! i will say this again for the bazillionth time. if you mod you better datalogg!! you car will run the fastest it ever has JUST before it blows!!

I just want to throw this out there.....not trying to start a war. Ive had my little crossfire on 2 different brands of dynos in two different citys all within 3 days of each other. (plus a few other times on 1 of them, its my buddys shop) First was a DD in houston, and the second and third were DJ's in austin. In my case they were all within 3hp of each other. Just something I think about when people start talking DJ to DD or MD. Like stated above......they are just a tool.

The closest dyno to my house is about 6 miles away and they have a Dynojet 224xLC. This place advirtises to all the hot rod diesels aroudn the area. WOuld this be good to use or should I keep looking?

How would they get the IAT's?

I knw I should be datalogging but keep finding myself buying the performance when I have the extra cash instead of the full $700-$1,000.00 set up that I want that Rob offers.

Any brand dyno will suffice, as long as you use it to gauge your progress. They don't log IAT's on the dyno as a norm, but they usually do log boost and Air/Fuel.

You don't need to spend a fortune to datalog. I used ScanXL Pro and it worked fine for me. Unless you're OCD like Steve and I, or you've got a bucket of money to spend, just focus on monitoring your Air/Fuel. I suggest you get a wideband and call it a day.

^ what he said. use the same dyno from the start and try to keep the weather close to the same if possible so as to not skew the #. dashdaq is great but any type of logger is better than none. timing, boost , afr, and iat will keep you in the know. theres a few apps that work well also.
when i was at the dyno tony was using my dashdaq for additional info during the pulls. the more info your tuner has the better he can tune the car

This is great info, thank you.

So an OBDII scan tool is from $40-$250, the scanXL Pro software is $150, what sensors will I need to add besides boost? AFR (O2) & IAT factory sensors work?

After the math I should probably just start off with the Zt-2 wideband for $255 and add on the DashDAQ later.

zt-2 wideband will be a great start. you can add a boost sensor and plug it into the zt2 timing is tapped from the ecu
