Default My car may not be dead after all.

Last Thursday I did some off-roading in the Crossfire after a big 4x4 truck was driving in my lane. The insurance adjuster took a look at it today and thinks it will be an easy fix If this is the case, I'll drop it off at the body shop early next week. I will be nice not having to start from scratch.

I slid into a telephone pole. Would you believe that no airbags deployed? Strange...

your side door bag should have went off.... I would have them put that in your insurance estimate so they can take it to Chrysler dealer and have them check it on the star system. I had to have mine reset after fixing the big door ding I got at Woodward. Saves you a 100 bucks...

Sorry to hear about the acident, and glad to hear you were not hurt. I'm surprised the side airbag didn't go off.

I flipped 20 feet into a creek and no air bags either, very strange.

Dang! I heard telephone poles fight back... Well, glad you are ok and hopefully your car is repairable like they are thinking. It is strange the airbag's didnt deploy though.

I am seeing that the airbags are not deploying in fender-benders or even wrecks. How do you check to see if they will? I would rather not find our the hard way.
Thanks

If the hit wasnt hard enough to break the glass, it wasnt hard enough to set the air bags off. Although it looks ugly, the damage looks to be very much superficial. The door bracing inside the door didnt hardly get touched, just a bit of thin sheet metal got crinkled. I bet they throw either a door skin, or replacement door on it, replace the missing trim behind the door and boot it out of the shop around the $2K price range.

On a side note, glad nobody got hurt and that the damage was only as minimal as it was. Good luck with the repairs and keep us up to date on the happenings.

Update: The Crossfire is a total loss. The parts are just so expensive from Chrysler that they can't justify repairing it. The damage is limited to the front bumper cover, driver's side door, one fog light, rockers, mark on rear bumper, radiator support, radiator, heat exchanger, and some misc plastic such as the belly pan. The passenger side fender needs adjusting also and the frame might need straightening, but that's only 3 hours work based on the quote at $100 an hour. Anyway, the car I'm interested in has a deposit on it, so I'll keep looking. By the way, neither the heat exchanger or radiator are leaking.

If anyone is in the market for a fixer-upper with a salvage title, I may just buy it back. I'll want $750 over the buy-back amount, which will be in the high 2K or low 3K range. Of course the mods and new headlights will be removed and car put back to stock.

I ran over a large piece of bent metel yesterday in my Crossfire by the trailor factory. It made a awful noise, but on inspection there was just a scratch on a rim that was new. Got lucky. It must have been sent flying by the tire and didn't go under, close call.

Damn. I'm sorry to hear this Anthony. Hopefully that is your garage we see in the pictures, and you are removing or have removed all of your mods already. Good luck w/ finding your replacement soon.

Man! Chrysler continues to do a great disservice to the Crossfire.

Thanks, guys. The $3,600 replacement cost for a door didn't help maters much.

I see several "insurance quality" left doors on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for under $1000.
Some are even the right color !!!!
