Ye 'olde chestnut...conductor plate
Well I had problems with the car not shifting and throwing codes.
I tried to get in and get the job done myself, but alas I've been spending every 2nd week away for work for the last 12 months and it's always been put in the "too lazy basket"
BTW - this relates to my 1999 SLK230 with the 722.6 tranny (not electronic), but I had originally bought a conductor plate from AutohausAZ for the 2002 SLK32....copy of my final benzworld post below and link to thread FYI.
........................
Well I never made the time to go further with this but time is running out and I have to sell the car. I bit the bullet and took the car to the local MB indie mech and lo and behold - ye 'olde chestnut - the conductor plate.
I had a new spare in the garage for my SLK32 ($180+freight from AutohausAZ) as I know this is a common failure point so I gave that to him - oila!....car is back to normal.
$300 including his time + the tranny fluid and filter kit.
What bugs me though is that I had done so much reading up on how to do this job (originally for the SLK32) and ended up having to pay someone to do it.
Oh Well.
PS also - the same conductor plate fits the SLK32 and the 230.
Now I havent gotten to the bottom of the codes thrown - RPM speed sensor - but it must relate to the conductor plate which seems to have a little magnetic pickup in it that sensors rpm (rotation).
Carsoft EGS Codes
013 RPM sensor n3 defective
109 RPM sensor n3 defective
Other point to note is that he pointed out some milky fluid in the bottom of the pan - indicating there was some moisture in the fluid - possibly the original cause. Havent gotten to the bottom of that either - need to check to see if the oil cooler is integrated into the radiator or seperate. If its integrated - then I may need a new rad . as well.

anyone looking for a good price on the conductor plate can't go past this offer.
I can't vouch for the seller - but the price is good at USD$125 + ship and includes the pan gasket, filter and connector
Mercedes Transmission Conductor Plate Connector Filter Gasket 722 6 Trans | eBay
or if you dont need the filt/gasket/connector....
USD$105+ship - same seller
