Got a Set of Michelin Pilots today - SLK32
Finally after 17months of owning the vehicle and the tyres that came with it -and some alignment issues - I got a flat Friday night.
I've been putting in the hours interstate lately and finally I had the prompt I needed to lash out and get a set of Michelin Pilot Sports in Sydney yesterday.
PS2's are running out of manufacture and being replaced by the PS3's.
I managed to get:
255/40/17's PS2's $350 ea for the rear and
225/45/17's PS3's $199 ea for the front.
plus alignment....
I was always going to go the tirerack route - but these were cheaper than imported ones I would've gotten from tirerack. They wanted $288 ea for the 255's and then I gotta add $70/tyre ship + fitting and the Aussie Dollar isnt as strong these days sitting at 0.95US/AUD whereas 6months ago it was 1.05US/AUD.
much better....
especially with the wavetrac LSD now......hopefully I wont wear one out quicker than the other.
My Left hand rear was almost bald.....but it was my right hand rear that went flat.
I even got to keep one of the old 235/45 tyre cases - hey - they wrapped it in cling wrap for me to go!....Plan to get a spare rim one day and have a sapre floating around.

Not sure if it was wise but I got 94Y's (PS2) on the rear and 91Y's (PS3) on the front.
Hey - the nameplate states >91's and Y's....not that >186mph is on the cards - you never know. Maye its a more stringently balanced casing = better tire?
Since stock width is 245 and I went 255 I figured the higher the load range - the "stronger" the side wall.
Maybe lower than a 94 might have been better on the rear to accentuate the drag strip style "winding up" of the walls to dampen the impact of the launch and even out the energy delivery.
And maybe 94's might have been better on the front to provide stiffness under cornering.
Not sure.
But couldnt get them in that make just the same.
