Default What would you do?

As I mentioned before a couple of rats ate my main body harness. Turns out to replace it is so expensive that the insurance company wants to total it. It's a SRT6 roadster with 24.9 K on it. They low balled it at 14.5 K. I can buy it back for 8K= 6.5 K in my pocket and a few wires to solder. The downside is the title will read "Salvage". or I can just let them repair the wires and the title will remain as is. What would you do? I should mention that I'm not sure how l willl keep the car, at least a couple of years.

I guess it really depends on a few factors..

First off do you know the extent of the damage to your wiring?
How expensive a fix is it for you? And if so are you sure it's the only damage that was done? If you know the extent of the damage and it's only a few wires for you to solder.. And you never plan on selling it and you want the cash... The. Go that route..

If you may sell it in the future and don't want the salvage title and they will stand by the repair and warranty the fix and ensure that if will work like it was new.. And you don't really care about putting the cash in your pocket.. Then that may be the way to go.. Only you can decide my friend.. It's unfortunate that it happened but at least you had insurance.. Definitely better than the alternative of not having any..

Thanks for the response MBO. I guess you can't know when I'm selling the car because I don't. It's an easy fix BTW. I'll probably pass on the salvage title and the money. It's temptin' though. It will be a collector car someday but I'm not sure if I'm that patient.. or will live that long.

Insurance companies don't value our cars strongly. My advice would be to have them fix it. A salvage title would drastically reduce the value of the car if you decided to sell later. If you plan on keeping it forever (like we are), $6K would buy a lot of mods! Or something more responsible if that's your thing...lol

Responsible? Hell no! I suppose I could get some five point seat belts and a fire extinguisher. That's kind of responsible. Originally I was thinking 'til death do us part an a salvage title wouldn't matter. Yes, 6k, I could put a 5 liter Benz in it. Thanks for the reply chuK.
