Default Newbie Alert... I'm looking into getting an SRT6, got some questions

What should I be looking for when inspecting one of these cars?
How reliable are they at higher mileage?
Any known issues/problems associated with these cars?
I'm eyeing one local to me with 100k miles.
Thank You in Advance.

I bought mine with 119k miles for next to nothing. They are reliable, im at 168k. Just note they can be pricey to repair. The repairs arent hard the parts just cost money.

Things i'd check is to make sure the intercooler pump for the supercharger is working. When I bought my car it wasnt so it would make power then not make power. One reason I was able to get it for cheap. Woman I bought it from didnt know what was wrong with it and wanted out of it. Cheap fix, new pump is like $100.

The CPS will likely need to be replace eventually. Mine went out at 130k. It is not fun and is pretty dangerous. Basically the car cuts off randomly. Once it cools down it will start back up but if your over 100k I just recommend changing that out to not have to worry about it.

Another issue with a high mileage srt-6 or crossfire in general is the RCM. On mine the relay for the air pump fried in the on position and burnt up my air pump. It was not fun looking for a replacement air pump. New they go for over $800. I bought one used off ebay and it still cost me $250. I also replaced the RCM as the contacts on the relay for air pump was burnt like toast. Some are able to solder a new relay and remove the old one. I just bought a new one instead, they cost about $200.

Your airbag light might come on due to the old age, that is the air bag module going bad. They go for about 40 to 60 on ebay. Motor mounts for high mileage srt-6's will go out and you'll notice the shifter moving. Ive had to replace mine. I also had a rear wheel bearing go out, that cost a some money to repair.

Only other issues you'll deal with headliner will fall if its the original, your on borrowed time they all drop.

The valve covers also will leak due to old age of the sealant. First it is the breather covers the one that sits on the valve cover. Then the actually valve cover will start leaking. Nothing major just need to reseal it when your tired of the burnt oil smell. This comes with old age and high miles.

Also suspension mainly the control arms, just know you'll end up having to replace them gradually. The ones in the rear will start to creak/pop due to age. The arms dont cost much, labor does if you have a shop put them on.

If reading all of this hasnt scared you away go for it. I dont know of any other high mileage srt-6, as most of the guys on here keep them in their garages and they have low miles like 30k. Im giving you rear world daily driver problems ive had with mine. Ive only had to have this car towed once and it was my fault not the car.

My car is modded, pulley,cai, bigger heat exchanger etc. I dont have any issues with it, it starts every day and I use it as a daily driver.

And thanks for your honest reply.

RCM =Relay Control Module
CPS =Crankshaft Position Sensor.
He's given you some of the best information you can have ,as a novice. Use these point as a bargaining tool. It will help you understand the car an give you questions to ask the seller about. Good luck.

For general tips on buying a Crossfire CLICK here.
With that mileage I would want one that has been carefully serviced, if it has been treated roughly walk away.
Click the link Index of .... in my signature for a list of possible problems and the fixes for them. Remember this is a list of problems with many cars and it should not be read as a warning, these cars have their little problems, look for a lower mileage car if you are not capable of fixing problems yourself.
Be thorough in your inspection and take your time.

What would be a fair price for 2 owner 100k miles that's in good condition?

NADA says 9,725 for one with 100k. At least that is what a dealer would sell it for, private party it will vary.
