How to open the tailgate if CL pump dies when all is locked
How to open the tailgate if CL pump dies when all is locked
Had the issue the other day with the trunk getting full of water an killing the CL pump, when all the doors and hatch were locked.
Turns out if you remove the drivers side license plate lamp, you can use a long thin screwdriver to push the trunk latch pawl under the handle (similar to what the actuator does), and thus get the trunk latch to open.
Attached is a picture of the lock (viewed from above), and I have tried to indicate where to put the screwdriver, in order to push the pawl under the handle.
It is almost impossible to see in there, so it is done mainly by feel.
Hope I have conveyed the procedure, and that it may help someone in the future.

Just picked up a 05 SRT last night....lots of research to do!
Re: How to open the tailgate if CL pump dies when all is locked
I have the same problem on my second 2004 coupe. Can't open hatch . An unnamed family member used key fob and hatch handle simultaneously repeatedly trying to unlock the hatch. Now the handle has no resistance, will not unlock. You can hear it trying. I cannot crawl in the back due to an injury, so I need in from the outside. Previously I had removed all the inside coverings in the hatch, so I can see the mechanism from the inside but can't reach it.
I removed the plastic lens to drivers side (US, not UK) license plate light, but there is no apparent access with a slim screwdriver. Is there a way to remove the housing and get further in? I tried to pry the surrounding seal off, but cracked it trying, so stopped.
How to proceed? Thanks

Ok, had to go deeper. Removed license plate light lens driver's side (US).
pried the light housing out from the ends, its held in by a contoured metal spring action.
That gives you an access hole.
POKED around a lot before I realized none of the arrows show the access route angle. Aim pretty much straight in but a little up and to the right, about four inches POP !
