Need some help!!
Ok, so the trunk (lift gate) was rattling a little, so I bring the car in to the dealer, and they adjust the anchor latch, the one mounted to the car body, not the latch on the lift gate itself. They also adjusted the two rubber bumper stops. So I take the car home, no more rattle...excellent...but now the dome light is stuck on. I bring it back, and they say its a short in the dome light assembly. I think they don't know what they're doing. Here's where I need some help.
Please open your lift gate, then manually close the latching mechanism, and tell me if your dome light turns off. Mine does not. There are two positions for the latch, the 1st is easy to close, then push it a bit more, and the final position will be reached. Does you dome light go out in either position? Mine does not.
Next with the latch in the 2nd closed position, gently close the lift gate, just so that the latch physically touches the bracket on the frame of the car. Does the dome light slowly fade to off after 10 seconds or so. Mine does. I think the have over adjusted the latch on the frame, and I'm not making the appropriate connections. This will really help me out.

Dan, already wasted 3 separate trips to the dealer. Waiting for them to get the dome light part in. Just don't want to have a 4th trip wasted. Would appreciate if you could help me out, should just take a few minutes on your part...
I know this is an old post, but wanted to reply anyway in case someone like me had trouble finding this. I was in a similar situation with my wife's SRT until I found this info.
We took the car in for a rattle, which resulted in the dealer adjusting the latch and breaking some the plastic trim. Once the trim pieces were ordered and put in we happened to notice the dome lights would stay on unless we turned them off via the switch. I used the method above, and sure enough the lights went off. So I just removed the trim panel and moved the latch up a bit, and all is well. I then had to re-adjust the rubber bumpers and placed some electrical tape on the latch for good measure. The hatch now makes no noises.

I have to admit my latch has electrcal tape on it also BUT to suggest this as the proper repair method.
Oh yah, a big wad of gooy tape is always the best fix!? Take the time to do it right or since it appears you have the time to take it to the dealer make them do it correctly. It isn't rocket science. Let them believe it is what ever they want just tell them to fix it.

LOL, Mine had electrical tape all over the lid latch when I bought it too. Had no idea why it was there and it looked horrible, so I yanked it off quick. I haven't noticed any rattles either, so I am not sure why it was there in the first place...
hey guys, i have this EXACT problem since my car was in the body shop for a deer attack!! i will check this out, but my dome light worked fine before the body shop had it apart! Let me undertsand, the latch that needs to move is on the liftgate? or the car body? please clarify for me so i dont waste time or make my problem worse, thanx a ton!!
