Default SRT-6 horsepower

Why does most printed info say the SRT-6 has 330 horsepower while if you run the vin. here it says 349 HP at 6100 RPM?

I have often wondered this, too. It's possible that the engine was underrated for emissions or insurance reasons. I owned other cars that the latter was definitely true about. I wonder if anyone has numbers of the SRT-6 vs SLK32 AMG on the same dyno, all stock. That would tell the story.

Guys
This was a marketing ploy by Mercedes Benz, PERIOD!

This difference in horsepower was generated by Mercedes Benz to disguise the difference between the C32/SLK32 vs. the SRT6. MB also removed the engine builder's plaque on the supercharger when it was installed in the SRT6's. They tried to devalue the engine, since it also had SRT6 on the intake manifolds vs the AMG markings on the MB 3.2 version in the 2000-04 C32/SLK32. MB did not want any competition with their product since it cost $11K (2004 SLK32 vs. the SRT6) over the price of a SRT6 Roadster.

Look up and SEARCH "The SRT6 Story" video on this forum and watch and listen to the guys from the SRT6 project team, it should clear up any misconceptions about the engines in the SRT6's.

The final year C32/SLK32 had a horsepower rating of 354 for 2004, the 349 HP rating was for the 2002-03 years.

Guys
The attached link contains the SRT6 "Story", narrated by the various team members of the Crossfire project. The horsepower issue is discussed by a team member, confirming the TRUE horse power of the SRT6 at 349, not 330 as advertised by Chrysler, based upon Mercedes Benz's instruction.
