Default E55 Swap Purchase

I'm looking to getting into a crossfire srt6 and came across one that claims to have had a professional e55 installed. I'm intrigued by the power but was looking for advice on whether I would be opening a pandora's box. Are well done swaps reliable or barely held together racing experiments? This is just going to be a play car but I don't want to have to wrench all the time.
I've seen that several people on here have put in V8s. Was it worth it?

Advice?

This is a loaded question, unfortunately. E55 is a model of car, and over the years it came with different engines. Your profile says NM, and there was one M113 swapped Crossfire out there that I am aware of. M113K is the supercharged version, and is quite a bit more involved to get into the car properly. Reliability-wise, all of the stock V6 and V8 engines of that era are renowned for being built like tanks.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything out my way. The add I saw is from a dealership in NC. The link is below. All they said was swapped with a supercharged v8 from an e55. I will likely get a more stock srt6 but was curious what others here might think. Maybe someone might even recognize it.

Not sure who did it, but that is an absolutely smoking good price for what that car is.

Sounds like I need to take a trip to NC if somebody else doesn't beat me to it. According to carfax the dealership has been trying to sell it for 6 months. Maybe something wrong with it but I may be in NC in May so I might drop in by.

Check with Rudy to see if he did the swap, if he did it's more reliable than a stock Crossfire.

Could be a great buy! Looks to have a nice AMG Big Brake upgrade and paddle shifters ... clearly some attention to detail, even includes an SC pulley scattershield.

Thanks for Rudy's number. I sent him a message.

Now, if the dealership would only contact me back...

Seen this Crossfire for months. It's been lowered in price month after month it seems like. I think originally they wanted $34,000 and went down from there. At $21,000 it's a great deal I feel like and it is fairly low mileage and the conversion looks good.
And there seem to be a lot of performance upgrades, too from custom air intake, upgraded pulley, pulley saver kit, scatter shield etc.
Definitely a great buy and would be a fun car to own. I say go for it if you are in the market for something like this. Or maybe there is someone close:by on the forum who could go and look this one over but I'd say it's worth it. Having s V8 Crossfire is a very are find.

in your opinion should a first time crossfire owner consider buying into a swap? quote

not really unless you have good knowledge of Mercedes and the crossfire send me some info like color or vin and where it is,(state) what are they asking for it ,, or give me a call i can tell you more like front and rear suspension fuel and performance parts on it. jim
Anchor Auto Outlet in NC. Silver sapphire blue with black hood. They want $22k. I'm thinking too good to be true. I'm very mechanically inclined but no Mercedes experience.

from the pic it might be worth it If there are no hidden problems, If i sold my srt6 for 16,000.00 i would buy it cause i have had two v8's so far. I have a v8 spare,,, V8 to put into a nice srt6 lot of work and i sold my last one for 20000. let me know what u plan to do,,, maybe i would call them jim
quote I left a message with the dealership and if it is still around on May i might do something. But if you do go after that one and sell your SRT6, let me know. I might be interested miles are low and the car is in good shape. quote

I am having a friend pick it up and do a few things to it before i go get it. fix cruise control , loose control arm in rear this what he found so far.
and with the dealer fees it went to 24,176.66+ 500 to go from ashville to the dealer with truck and trailer 2.5 hours each way we can also talk about my srt6 jim

Looks like Burkekernen waited too long and sounds like AMX snatched this one up. Have followed this one for a while...the seller tested the market for months and wasn't able to sell so finally came down on the price.
That would have been THE opportunity to own a V8 Crossfire as this would have been much cheaper and way less time consuming than tackling a conversion project yourself.
With these cars you have to act quick. There were only 2000+ cars ever made and maybe a handful V8s are floating around.
Who knows how many SRTs were totalled.
So if you find one you like you have to act quick. To tell a dealer if it's still available in May you will act is just not a good idea and why? Either buy it or else someone else will with these cars.

I hope you don't give up and continue searching. Why do you want a V8? Have you test driven a "stock" SRT6? Reliability wise I'd say it's best to purchase a stock SRT, then modify it for relatively cheap to be a real rocket.
If you have the V8 conversion, you'd need to know a little bit about these conversions as it's a much more complex project and you would want someone who knows what they are doing to work on those converted cars unless you are that skilled yourself.
For me, I drove a NA for over 11 years and loved that car. Then finally found a low mileage SRT6 last year with only 25,000 miles on it. I upgraded the Cold Air Intake, Smaller Supercharger Pulley, Upgraded pulley and ECU tune and the car makes more than enough horsepower. So much so that it becomes tough to get that power to the street without spinning the tires.
For me that is plenty. Good luck in your search.

I was helping Burkekeman with information on that car when he said he wanted a nice low mileage srt6, then he said he would wait til May to see if they had sold it ,,with that info i dug into who's car that was and paid a guy to go 126 miles to check it out. he found a few things that needed to be done so i made the plunge and bought it, for two reasons one i get my v8 crossfire now the other with me being diagnosed with throat cancer , building my V8 and not ready until May this way i could enjoy the car between treatment. my friend in NC is going to go over the car real good , and i hope to here from jimmy Skullz to let me know the little things about the car, i know it drives good, as James said it scared the crap out of him when he test drove and punched it.
I am going to go after the car either to trailer it or drive it in about a week or two James will have it in Ashville NC. jim

Rudy had nothing to do with my SRT build, did it myself , Josh did the Ecu . I sold it in 2018, think it went through 2 or 3 people so far.
Still looks good , someone removed my air suspension it had in it .

Had seen your car for sale for months and the price got lower and lower but I always wondered what that switch in the center console was for LOL. It has the AMG Affalterbach sticker right below it. Just curious.

Also, great job on the conversion. I really respect the know how and time and effort needed to pull this off and to pull it off right. Do you still own a Crossfire now?

Congrats on the purchase of what started super high a few months ago and came down to a fantastic price for V8 conversion in my opinion, especially for a forum member who has been down that road before.
I really hope you feel better and kick this throat cancer's ****!! All the best to you and enjoy the car!

thanks! I sold it a few years ago, and it just popped up again .
The switch is for two small aux pusher fans I installed for more cooling … they run hot!
No I sold both my v8 Crossfires , I have a 05 clk55 now and I installed a 55k motor in that . I miss the Crossfires for sure.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I just took home a 2003 SL55 AMG with 50k miles on it. I really wanted a crossfire but this car was way too good to pass up. $20k out the door. This car is scary fast.
