2005 Crossfire SRT
I am looking at a 2005 SRT with 35K and had a PPI done. The list includes brakes, wheel bearings, shocks at the four corners, steering damper, and tie rods. I would not think a car with 35K would need this much work. What does the forum think? I could do much of the work myself, but does this mean this car has had some problems that are not listed on the Caefax or is it because of its age?
What do you think? Considering the cost for a dealer to do the work is $6300. And if I am looking for the parts on FCP Euro what model Mercedes would I search under?
Thanks for your time in advance

I’m sure that you’re already dialled in on this but when looking for parts to replace on your SRT, try to stay away from Rock Auto. They are a great company but do not always list the correct parts for SRT. Many items that are listed in SRT are incorrect and are only compatible with the NA.
Stick with quality vendors most notably Needswings or FCPEURO
A Chrysler dealer did the PPI. Do you find that certain parts in these cars wear earlier than expected? Also, the car is 18 years old could some of it be from age? Do you do your own work and do you find it easy to do the work? I did own a C300 and did most of the work myself. I now own a S4 and have done much of the work myself..
thanks

I do most of the work on my own.
My point regarding parts is one of awareness. Not all crossfire parts are interchangeable.
there are parts that are dedicated to the SRT only.
My experience has been that RockAuto doesn’t always list the correct parts for the SRT. I’ve purchased several items, listed for the SRT, (in the SRT section of the drop down menu) only to find out that they’re for the NA. In addition to that, when you identify that the parts are incorrect, there is almost no recourse with respect to support or returns. That has been my experience.
The parts were fine but incorrect.
Experience is what I got when I didn’t get what I wanted.

These are basically Mercedes. Parts are quality from the start. I can't conceive of a car with 35,000 miles needing wheel bearings unless it was abused.
Is it possible for you to drive the car before committing to purchase? Where is the car?? If it was driving in the north of the country during winter it will have corrosive damage. Best to find one from warm climates without salted
roads.
Yes, I do 99% of the work on my two Crossfires including alignment and some painting. I have a lift in a dedicated shop. The one thing you will need is a good scan tool if you intend to work on the car yourself. A scan tool that can dig into the Mercedes/Chrysler codes, A generic OBD II is a start, but won't get you were you need to be on some problems as they arise. Everything is metric or torx, so you will need those to work on it yourself.
There are a good number of Crossfire owners in GA. Someone near you may be willing to look at the car if you can be more specific as to it's location.

Independant auto repair shops that support Mercedese are your best bet, If you can't do it yourself, never a dealer. You actually have a 2004 Mercedese SLK32 AMG except for the body and a few other items.
Lot's of valuable info here.

I usually hunt around for my parts. I use FCP Euro, Pellican, Rock Auto, etc... and if I were doing any mods I would definitely use Needswings.
I've been wrenching on cars since I had my 1969 Charger in 1980.
I think you quoted the wrong member, but I do appreciate your looking out for people.

Roadster with 65k and SRT6 with 43k and none of those issues. Both cars are tight, so unless the PO beat the crap out of it, it should not need the work. But if you need parts, the advice above is sound.

If you’re interested, I have a 2005 SRT6 Roadster that my wife is fussing at me to get rid of - too many medical issues keep me from driving it as much as I want to - my last trip really beat me up.
I bought my car in 2009 with 16800 miles on it; it now has 59 K on it and has been garage kept since I bought it.
Maintenance / repairs were done been done by Rick, @ Eurotech in Stafford, VA, until I moved to FL 4 years ago - since then it’s only been in for oil changes.Rick is an award winning master MB technician, and a super nice guy - he can answer any question about these cars (I had to convince him it was really an SLK in disguise).
The only major work I’ve had done is a front strut replacement (it was leaking) and had the rear window replaced with a plastic (vinyl?) one by a boat upholsterer about 10 years ago.
It has a single CAI, new tires at about 50k, resonator delete and flash; other than that it’s pretty stock.
PM me if you’re interested - I’m in NE GA and can meet you if you want.
Thx!

OOPS ITS NOT SRT6 SORRY
I know of one. It's in really bad shape. Guy says he'll take $800. Body looks good. Wheels are curbed, interior is fouled something horrible. no battery, says it doesn't run. Father hinted the kid ran it out of oil. Automatic transmission.
