I removed the rubbing strip today as it was creased and in poor condition, I was going to fit a new one, but I like the clean look of not having one at all, so I am going to leave it like this

What's going to do the rubbing now? The paint?

 

I wonder if someone could die-cut a clear vinyl to go where the black strip was? Like the clear vinyl bra. Have someone copy a new unused rubbing strip for a perfect fit pattern. James

PS - if it does rub into the paint, you can always cover it over with a new one.

 

I have had mine off for more than a year now with no adverse effects. I do not have a single mark in the paint from the top rubbing. The top actually has a padded rubber piece that sits on the paint. I believe Doc has had his off for even longer than me with no problems. Along with debadging, it makes detailing much easier.

I would like to remove mine. Tired of looking at the faded strip. What's the best way to remove it.

 

Its good to know that you and Doc have not had any problems with marks on the paint work, I think so long as you keep a good coat of wax polish on there, and keep the hood rubber seal clean it should be fine. When I drive mine I always have the hood down anyway, I think also the 350Z roadsters don't have a rubbing strip either? so I can't see a problem long term, but if I do, I can always refit the strip, so there's nothing to loose by giving it a try

 

It was alot easier than I thought it was going to be, I left the car out in the hot sun for a hour with the roof down, this heated the strip up, I then just peeled it off, it left a couple of patches of adhesive here and there which I removed with a bit of white spirit on a micro fibre cloth just rubbing gently, I then finished it off with a good coat of Autoglym resin wax polish
