New Intake? Or is it a saskins?
Look in my sig to see what car i have. I am looking for an air intake setup for it. I've searched and searched yet nothing has come up. All i see is Saskins BUT i don't see any pics and his PM box is full. I found the one below, but i'm curious as to how this works? Is there any sensors in those pipes that were removed? For $150 i can't beat it, just curious as to what you guys think. Thanks-

i truly think you would be at a "loss of power" due to inhaling all that hot engine air thru the filters. they need to be mounted down low near cold air flow at the lower front bumper area. ~ noise doesn't always = power.
ps ~ this is not saskins system...
...he ripped someone off on a system & hasn't been on the board since... Saskins Last Activity: 09-26-2005 03:33 PM

Thanks for letting me know that. I've searched all over, i'm not looking into making my own unless someone else has before and knows the exact parts needed to do so. Yes i have searched the board, but i am still trying to find the right intake/chip/exhaust for my xfire. I was looking into just replacing the OEM muffler w/ a magnaflow/flowmaster but my main concern is i want to KEEP my stock tips. Also as for intake, yah i'd like true cold air but if i can't get that then i guess something like above will have to do. And as for a chip, oh well UPsolute seems to be the choice BUT i am not sending out my ECU and i'm in NY and not traveling... So that seems to be out of the question.
xfire05... here is some major intake info from the past to digest...

That's perfect, so i'm guessing that means your getting rid of the dual intake setup correct? Looking at that, i don't see why companies just don't make one! It could be done in one darn pipe! jeez... Oh and at the bottom it says "this won't fit back on the engine" what did you mean?
Actually popped the hood today and looked at everything. For starters i don't like the single setup, i'd much rather have the dual setup. I am thinking about buying that one off eBay i posted, removing the filters that are in the actual airbox and seeing what that does for me. Then i'm picking up that 14220 magnaflow muffler to have installed (i want stock tips). I just want it to sound a little better, and notice a little better in power. Noting crazy, oh and im heading to Upsolute Tuning very soon as well.
Nice, i thought about going somewhat custom. But i don't have the tools for it. I figured at least the intake setup i posted would get rid of some of the size difference in piping. I saw that when it goes to the bumper/radiator support it goes from about 2.5" piping to an oval 1.5" size. That's horrible. So at least this would bypass that or no?
It's mostly custom especially the chrome heat shields. I cleared the inside of the engine cover (with Dremel) after removing the square filters for more air under the cover.
Cut some tubes and add the K&N cone filters. I have to make the front air inlet bigger to be able to fit a bigger RAM tubing or you can keep the inlet and cut the stock plastic tube to feed the tip of the cone filters with cold air.
It's very simple and doable to newbies like me.

lol. i just looked at that ebay intake, that IS WORSE than stock intake. it would be best and cheaper to just take the darn tubes off. it sounds ALOT cooler, you hear the "wheezing" like an old man sleeping effect.
I just made my new intake setup yesterday, not sure if it's actually better performance or not yet ? But it only cost me $100 bucks, and about two hours of fab time (didn't change anything, so I can go back to "stock" if I want). Here are some pics, there are more in my members area. Of course now I need to solve the "heat" issue in the engine bay like everyone else. :P
Let me know what you think ?

It's alittle on the "cheap" side of quality, but I really wanted to see how it would work first before I went and built some thing "hand made" out of metal. I know now that it works (which by the way, the sound change with these on is really nice) but, I can do something better.
