Angry "A" Service [oil change]

I just had my first wrench icon appear on my dash. According to the book, it is time for an "A" service. All the items listed seem like overkill for a first time service. Anyway, all the dealers I've contacted say it just needs an oil change.

My question is, what is so special about an oil change for an XF that costs $125.00? You've got to be kidding!

Amen to your comments. Both the A and B service are what I call a glorified oil change. Everything else in the "service" is just a look over and in my opinion they don't do those. For instance they are supposed to inspect tires for damage and general condition, but the dealership where I had the B done "overlooked" front cupped tires and tread wear indicators on the rears. It's a sham.

The first service i had in uk cost £260 that was with just 5,500 miles on it. OIL was charged at £87 plus £10 to get rid of the old stuff you can buy Mobil 1 for £25 for 4 ltr so where they get those sort of prices from is beyond me. If your first service is priced at $125 bite there hands off.

there is nothing special about the oil changes that require a cost of $125. just drain the oil yourself, take out the filter and put in fresh oil and filter, your done! total cost to the DIYer is about $60.

I normally do my own oil changes or bring my vehicles to a Valvoline Quick Oil change location. Since this was something new I figured I'd go to the dealer, thinking something "special" had to be done. I got suckered into this one.

$20 ish at most for a filter.
$6 per qt. of mobile one X 8 qt.

Total $68 for oil and filter.
You can do it for less if you can find the oil on sale. I have seen it range from $4.20 - $6.80 a qt.
Enjoy.

I was fortunate to get free oil changes and tires for the life of my car. So it costs me all of nothing to get my oil changed and I will be getting my 3rd free one on monday along with a new windshield wiper blade and windshield trim replaced. Tires will need to be replaced soon too. I have 13,200 miles on them and might get to 15,000 if I'm lucky.
