Default Engine Cover Burning Hood Insulation???

When i took my engine cover off to put my K&N filters in i thought it went fine. But the other day when i washed my car i opened the hood, and noticed something black on the very front of my engine cover. he I looked up and i could see the insulation on the hood was melted/burn, and was a little ruffed up. I never noticed this before, so i figured somehow its touching now and it transferred. Any ideas on how to stop this and remove the goop from my engine cover??

Cool Re: Engine Cover Burning Hood Insulation???

Did you place the engine cover on correctly? Also the new "Air Intake" you fabricated is it touching the insulation?

No i don't have a new intake, i just changed my stock Mercedes air filters to K&N filters. They just replace inside the engine cover. The cover is on all the way and not loose, It won't go down anymore, can't seem to figure it out, but its not gettin any worse.

One possibility is that one side of the 'insulation' mat that is on the underside of your hood has drooped some. Check the other side and compare them.

As to the 'melted' portion... I'm clueless. The stock plastic cover on my engine rubs in one spot on the 'insulation' pad, but that pad is made from fiberglass mat I think, so I don't see how it could 'melt'.

I have a spot on my cover right over the Chrysler emblem, its not from burning its just rubbing.
I clean it off with Mr. Clean Eraser.

Yea its dead center above the emblem. Ok maybe its not burnt, but there is some transfer, and i couldn't wipe it off. I will have to scrub it. I will also take some pics today.

I had the same problem! Exactly as you say it is...right on top of the emblem! I actually had a long drive and when i step out i smelled something burning...popped the hood and bingo!!! I called the dealer and they replaced my liner under warranty...if yours has expired then just make sure that the clips that hold on to the liner are popped in securely! ...the burn stuff on the emblem should wash out with a little elbow grease!

Romio, you caught my attention with this one. I just had my K&N filters installed a couple of weeks ago. I had to go check to see I don't have the same issue. Glad to report that everything is fine.

Eureka! Maybe that explains this:

Or maybe this is that seat-bottom heater issue that keeps popping up...
