Default Is it worth buying a K&N Air Filter?

For those of you who have them, is it worth it? You need two right?

Think of what you pay for filters in the time you own your vehicle! I think you'll relize that K&N Liftime Filters might be worth the extra money. I just added them to my Crossfire and feel they are doing a good job, these filters can be cleaned when needed not just replaced. I am happy with my investment!

they ain't worth a damn to me, K&N's have been tested and found to cause more harm to your engines cyclinder walls and oiling system, mostly due to lack of particle filtration. I'll stick with OEM papaer thankyou.

If you want you can upgrade to the larger paper air filters and airbox from the M113 engine

If you are looking to keep the stock Crossfire Airbox, yes the K&N is a worth while upgrade. There have been numerous posts about their performance increase on mbworld.org, and benzworld.org.

Check out our site for other options as well sa the K&N.

With K&N you get a boost in power. However, this is the result of increased airflow with resultant lower filtration of particles..I too believe in high quality paper filters. They clean the air better....

all of the oil contamination stuff is just hype, the only way the oil from the filters would get in your engines oil is if you have bad compresion and blow by problems, if your compresion is bad the least of your worries should be your air filter. the thing to worry about is the mass air flow sensor being contaminated, you can clean the maf sensor but eventually it will fail, and they arent cheap. the hp increase you get from these filters is minimal, to the point you will never notice it. so in other words take the 60 bucks the filters would cost and save it for a cold air intake, you will notice huge gains of hp and torque as well as gas milage increases when you stay off of the go pedal. most of these kits will come with a k&N filter, if your worried about contamination of your maf sensor or other contamination you can always order an aem dryflow filter, which does not use oil and offers excellent flow and filtration, is reusable, you cant crush it, and has a lifetime warranty. i run the aem filter on my xf and love it i also run an aem filter on my truck with a brute force intake system on it, as well as the truck i had before that. i never had any issues with failed maf sensors with these vehicles and i trust aem. but thats just my opinion.

I've used K&Ns in every car I've owned with no ill effects.

i ran a k&n on my vw golf went through 10 maf sensors until i put a aem on the end of my intake, never replaced it again. as for the intake you can get one from tvt designs, it is the only real cold air intake for the naturally aspirated crossfire, but it comes with a k&n lol. i run the tvt intake but i got an aem filter.

i was actually thinking about buying the original needs wings figuring i could make it work with little effort, but i still dont like the fact the filter is right there up front waiting to get wet, the idea behind it is perfect in that it has a shorter route to the engine then the tvt design with less bends, but im still not sold on my filter sitting right there with not protection from water. the srt guys love the hell out of it though and i havent heard of one problem.

im sure everything is fine, and i think the na crossfire intake is going to be different than the srt design by a little, not positive though don't quote me on that, but i would bet money everythiing would be fine with it.

Tylerxfire - I hear what you're saying regardind the filter right behind the grill and water ingestion.
However... Needswings say they tested their intake for months with no trouble.
Also, the existing intake is no different - there you have 2 scoops to channel the fater into the engine, an no trouble - at least having a fine mesh/gauze/filter there should repel more water than 2 scoops!

Elfprofessor... they're company names, I wouldn't strain yourself trying to find out what they mean.
