Default exhaust in the works

I plan on installing a true dual exhaust on the car this weekend.

Just ordered a Magnaflow Muffler from Ebay:

Also ordered a 2.5'' X-pipe off Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T304-...em350038712923

My plan is to remove the 2 aftercats and the stock Y-pipe, and in their place, mount the X. Then route 2 2.5'' pipes into the muffler. Planning on welding the stock tips back on to the Magnaflow, but because of the muffler outlet spacing and the bodywork around the muffler, I might end up mounting them vertically instead of horizontally. Should look pretty unique.
Only difficulties will be in installling a mounting bracket for the 2 pipes, but some spot welding should take care of that.

Overall cost= 92$+54$+ about $200 for labor and pipe bending. $350 total isn't too shabby.

Should have pics and video up by Sunday if the parts arrive on time.

got it done!
attached are some pics.

The guy did a ****-poor job bending the pipes. He constricted it at one point so much, the pipe might as well be 2''. but at least his welds are solid. 240$ labor- Oh well, at least i can sell the cats later...
Reattaching the tips didn't work out so well. The tips are meant for 2'' pipes, outlet on the muffler is 2.5''. Went w/out tips, think it looks fine.

Nice - adding a second pipe is tough with our cars because you have to sacrifice ground clearance to run the second pipe to the muffler.

As long as you are happy with it - that's all that matters.

I'm sure you will be able to fab up or find some tips to your likening. The VID sounds nice and healthy.

There is no drone from idle to about 3000RPM. From 3000-3500, slight drone, not noticable when the radio is on. from 3500-4300, heavy drone and resonance- the type of drone where i cant even hear my friend in the passenger seat. From 4300-redline, it sounds just evil. perfect blend of growl and shreik, almost like a tuned supercharger at high revs. definitely turns heads and clears cars in front of you on the highway.

I'll try to take a video of it at high revs, and also put the camera in the cabin so you can hear the resonance.

haha, thats what i was thinking- needs more bite to match its bark

i'm trying to isolate the drone inside the cabin. Like another thread mentioned ( i think in audio somewhere, they were talking about bass), the way our trunk is formed, its like an acoustical box. Since the muffler is right under it, noise is transferred directed into the cabin.

I'm trying to get some acoustical foam/mats to place in the trunk. I'm thinking a few layers of dynamat or fatmat placed right above the 'tool box' in the trunk should eliminate a lot of the resonance.
Again, i'll try to get some pics and video this weekend.
