Exclamation Mobil 1 World Wide Oil Shortage

Hey guys - I've been a Crossfire owner for a while but never posted anything, flying under the radar. I thought my first post should be a good one!

I just talked to my local Chrysler Service Manager today... (visiting my car that has been in the shop now for a month - it takes over 3 months to get a new instrument cluster... long story). Any how my service manager said there is a world wide freeze on production of Mobil 1 synthetic, something to do with this summers hurricanes in the gulf.

I also confirmed this with the guy at Checker Auto, after buying 9 quarts of 0W-40. He mentioned that they will not be getting any more shipments of Mobil 1 in, what's on the shelf is it! And no word when new shipments will be coming in.

Has any one else heard anything about this?

I just had my oil changed at the dealer about 2k ago but wanted to have a plan B if the dealer is already buying Mobil 1 from Wal-mart across the street!

I don't know about Mobile1 shortage, but why did it take so long to get your instrument cluster? It only took my dealer 1 week to get it.

I havent heard this, but I bought the last 9 quarts that my advance auto parts had in stock. I was at another Oreilly and an advance later that week, and neither had the 0W40 in stock. Good thing I dont drive my car much, so 7K miles will be a while for me, hopefully they will get it taken care of by then!

My first instrument cluster only took about a week to get, this time they say it will be in March 9! Even got the Regional parts Manager looking into it. I'm in a rental van for 13 weeks, can't even use my new tires that were put on yesterday.

Less than two months ago, I bought all nine quarts of Mobile1 0W-40 Advanced Auto Parts had in-stock... in Kansas City.

You can bet your butt there's a shortage right now.

I've already got my coupon... I'm looking forward to using it in the future.

H82BL8 why did you need to replace your cluster twice?

First cluster change was because the dealer messed-up and used a screwdriver to the remove the ignition switch and scratched the cluster and front of the dash pad. Its so much fun to take your car in to fix one problem and it comes out with two more!

Second replacement - FSS resets to 12k miles after oil change (twice) and BAS and ABS lights blink'in like a bad Christmas tree.

Guys / Girls -- I don't understand it-- why the worry over Mobil 1 and why even bend over backwards to get it or continue its use.
I have run Shell ROTELLA T for years in Corvettes, Ducati's, Harley V-Rods and now the two Crossfires we have. It is a 5W40 synthetic with an additive package that really keeps things clean. Now the best part -- Walmart carries it for approx $20.00 a gallon. That is $40.00 an oil change for us.
This oil thing makes people crazy with a manufacturer's endorsement (Mobil 1 specific ??) and / or the Mercedes specs thrown in.
I for one think we will be just fine with a quality name brand synthetic like ROTELLA T in the 5W40 range.

I use Mobile1 0W-40 because I am paranoid about keeping my CarMax Extended Care warranty.

I have 4.5 more years of warranty... and all the receipts I need to prove I've done my oil changes. (As well as light bulbs and internal/external air filters)

I just picked up some for $6.99/quart at Autozone. I bought 16 quarts and, therefore, contributed my share to the worldwide Mobil 1 oil shortage.

They only had STP filters (S84810, though.
