Exhaust Options??? Not TOO loud?
I have an SRT with NW intake, C3 pulley, and inmotion tune. I want more power/ airflow, but with minimal droning noise. I want a little more noise but not LOUD! What is the best option? I lean towards just deleting the resonator and keep factory muffler, Opinions?!?!?!
If you are searching for more power, you will not find it with a muffler or catback. The bottleneck with the exhaust system is the exhaust manifold. There are no headers available for the Crossfire. This is the only option that I am aware of presently that will give you any additional HP. NeedsWings SRT6 Cutout downpipes
The Ansa seems to have been the most popular option to minimize the "droan." Quite a few of the members have done the Magnaflow Cat Back and I believe the SRT-6 is a different set up than the NA for the Magnaflow. The key is several people complained that it was too loud between 2000-2500 under a steady throttle while others enjoy the sound. I believe there are clips of the Magnaflow posted on you tube.
Gary, has the ANSA as well as several other members.
Magnaflow in my opinion has a throaty racy sound, while the ANSA has a more euro sound.
The last and most expensive option is the Borla. On the Crossfire the performance gain is minimal and its more of tone change.

My roadster has the muffler cut out. LOVE the sound. No drone, not loud, sounds GREAT when you get on it, no parts to buy. Just fabricate a "Y" pipe to keep the original tail pipe pieces.

Well I didn't do it. The previous owner did. He removed only the muffler.
Unfortunately the Y pipe he made had a steep angle on it and when you mashed the gas it would whistle. So I made a new Y pipe with a smoother angle on it and it sounds great!
When I dyno'd my cars people were more impressed with the roadster because of the way it sounded than they were with the coupe that turned out more HP and torque!
Has an exoctic sports car kinda sound.

I'm considering going with a 4 port Mega-Oval muffler from WWW.stainless-specialties.com Was checking out their mufflers construction at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Sounds deep, mellow and not overly loud on a V-8 with their single 4 port design. Any muffler will be louder if you install two seperate singles. Sound can sometimes be tricky coming from a 6 cylinder like ours! I would think the four port would fit well under our cars with the rear cats removed. Finish out from this muffler with true duals. They also make up a stainless dual inlet welded into a nice looking box that looks better than the porshe boxster's exhaust tip. 4-Port dual muffler> 2 1/2H X 6 1/2W X 23" LOA. Custom sizes are avaliable.. Squirrel Crusher

so you kept the resonator but just no muffler? Interesting...

I know the downpipes are a HUGE power adder, but I would only use them once or twice per year

Thanks Gary!!
Is it enough flow for a modded SRT and does anyone have it on an SRT??
Should I leave the resonator on??

Where is the resonator on the Crossfire? has anyone got any clips of it removed?
would the resonator be called the Silencer box in the UK?
i know the muffler over here is called the backbox, just unsure of resonator.
cheers!

any vids around or can anyone tell me what the difference makes when having the resonator taken off? a lot louder or just a bit?

sdnatlst:
I just did a resonator delete... $150... local shop.
Raises the sound up a bit at 'cruising' ... a bit more at WOT.
On a scale of 10...
if the original pre-mod level was a 5...
then it's maybe a 6 now.
if that helps.
Just enough to enhance, without being obnoxious.

So to get to a sound level of 7 I should delete both the resonator and muffler and just run two pipes in and two pipes out of a good after market muffler? I just can't find anyone who has tried ANSA on an SRT and I need a part number since ansa doesn't make one for us. Will the universal have enough flow for the modded srt 6??
I think I will just cut both off and then tempararily clamp each one on separately and see which sounds better alone
Thanks for all the inputs guys!!!
