Frankly, getting them off isn't a problem with regular plyers. Just twist them around so you can grab one of the ridges and pull hard. This last time I couldn't get them back on though. I don't know if it's older hands or the new plugs but I couldn't get the leverage I needed to seat them all the way. I hate to admit it but .... I put some vaseline on the boots or I'd still be in the basement pushing on those puppies.
