Noise from under car
Looking for some help...
Just a day ago I noticed my 2006 Roadster is making a kind of rattling noise coming from under the car (like metal clunking against metal)
It only seems to be when i'm moving at low speeds but continues for a few minutes if i pull over and rev the engine.
I have checked all the heat shields under the car and all are attached solidly.
As far as i can check without getting it up on the ramp the exhaust also seems to be attached at all points and solid.
I know this might be a long shot but was wondering if any you guys had a clue what it might be.

Heat shield?
The piece of metal between the exhaust and body to stop the heat transferring. Think that's what it's called. Lol
How would I know if the CAT was gone?

I put mine on the ramp at work with the engine running - sounds like loose stones in a steel pipe, which I guess isn't far off. Its been doing it since last year on and off but got worse to the point of being embarrassing
. Passed the mot ok here in the uk but I couldn't live with it any more. Just got to find out the scrap value of the old one now to attempt to recoup some of the £200 it cost (comes in 2 parts one with 3 cats and one with 1
. Needless to say it was the dearer one
Sorry just noticed where you are so you know all about MOT's!

Hi thnx for your help.
It sounds exactly like stones in a steel pipe :-(
Was it £200 for both CATS or was that just one?
How much do you think the scrap value of the old one is?

200 for the part with 3 cats. I got it from these people
Approved Petrol Catalyst - Click Car Parts Limited
If I get a price for the scrap bit I'll let you know, but there seems to be a lot of variation. I'm hoping the other bit will last a bit longer

fitted the new one today - pretty easy
. I've never done one before and the only hold up was cutting old bolts off (make sure you get a fitting kit with a new one). Hadn't realised how noisy the car had got - much quieter now. Just got to get some scrap money in for the old one now. One thing of interest the new one has only 2 cats instead of 3. They've joined the rear 2 together but it all fitted easily
Got the car up on the ramp today.
Found out it is just a bracket that is attached to the exhaust that has split. Just needs to be welded - *see attached pic
Thank god......
Cost me a packet of cigarettes, lol
