Hahaha, so I guess not enough excuse not to know what you are talking about.... :(
However I researched it and got the idea.
You still did not say if the AC clutch should be checked out....

However thanks again for your awesome hearing!!!

Re: Check engine light came up today

1. Check the fluid level in the power steering reservoir.
2. remove the serpentine belt and check the water pump pulley. It should have very little play in any direction, and should turn freely.
3. check the little idler pulley by spinning it and listening for bearing noise.
4. do the same with the tensioner pulley.

I do not think the AC clutch is involved, but I was wrong at least one time in the past, although I can't remember when that was.

Can you indicate where the power steering reservoir is located?

Re: Check engine light came up today

Front driver's side of the engine, has a round black cap on it.
Has lettering "Filled with Pentosin CHF 11S "

( and if it's low, that's what you need, don't run down to Autozone and buy some generic power steering fluid.
You may have to get it from a MB dealer - $$$$$ )

Re: Check engine light came up today

thanks for you input, will check it early in the morning unless I can see it with a flashlight right now. Is it visible if low or how I know it is low? Is there a specific brand name I should consider or go straight to a MB shop?

Re: Check engine light came up today

I did a search on the forum to understand how to check the fluid level and found entries from members saying in the Crossfire there is no dipstick to measure the fluid. I should also be able to see a leak, otherwise the fluid level should be ok. Also the crossfire steers well, haven't felt anything hard or different. I am at around 73k at the moment.
I found where the steering fluid reservoir is located. But will check it in the morning. If there is no dipstick I can't certainly know if its low or not ???

By the way my AC gives me some issues since a few weeks by blowing whenever it wants, even happened to blow another minute after turned off.

Checked the steering fluid reservoir. There is a dipstick, but since its night and the engine cold its hard to tell. It seems to cover just the first part of the tip. Now does that means its low or I have to run the engine while checking it? On my search one part suggest the engine running while you check and others don't. Pls let me know. Thx for sticking with me.

Re: Check engine light came up today

The manual says :

During scheduled maintenance, check the power steering
fluid level at the power steering fluid reservoir. Normally,
it will not be necessary to add power steering
fluid.
Before removing the reservoir cap, wipe the outside of
the cap and reservoir so that no dirt can fall into the
reservoir.
The power steering pump has a dipstick. Fluid level
should be maintained at the proper level indicated on the
dipstick. If necessary, add fluid to restore to the proper
indicated level. With a clean cloth, wipe any spilled fluid
from all surfaces.
I would take that to mean with power off.
HINT: If it's dark, use your cell phone light.

Look inside the reservoir, if the fluid looks frothy, then it's low. There should be no air in the fluid.

hi ala_xfire

so I checked my power steering fluid and with cold engine it does not even cover the tip of the dipstick.
Now I did some research to find the correct fluid and found on the MB forum PENTOSIN CHF 11S W0133-1850220 $ 23. Is this the correct fluid to use?
Now how I know how much I should put in? Just a little at time and where should it reach with cold engine? I post 2 pics from the dipstick. Hopefully you can assist me with that. Should I test the fluid in the reservoir between my fingers to see if it has particles in it and if should it be replaced? Can I do that or better to drive to MB shop?

so many questions. Thank you so very much for your assistance.:p

Re: Check engine light came up today

Yes, Pentosin CHF 11S.
Between the bottom 2 marks if cold, between the top two if hot.

I used a syringe with plastic tubing to suck all mine out a couple of years ago and refilled with new.

Re: Check engine light came up today

do you think I should take the fluid out as well and than just replace it? My car is at 74k now.
Another question: what other fluids should be checked other than the engine oil to make sure on that part everything is checked? My manual stick drive makes a grinding noise since some time.

Re: Check engine light came up today

So I just joined the missing quantity and the dipstick reaches now to the 2nd level with cold engine.
However engine noise is always the same. So I guess I have to take it to the MB shop to get their opinion what is going on.
The check engine light never came up again. So it was one of those 2 big tubes coming lose. No idea how this could happen itself ???
However I had to reset the CEL to get the check engine light off, it did not go away itself.
I will update with more news from the MB shop.....

thanks for all your help and assistance, happy to be part of it.
