Default Intake question

I'm a relatively new xfire owner, 07' limited areo blue 53k on motor. I've seen Syfi's DIY intake and I like it but was also wondering if I utilize my stock cover by removing the filters and doing (sort of) the ebay like set up will this still give me any gains? Essentially I'd like to try and fit 2 "smaller" cones right behind my grill and get fresher air. Has this been done before without to many problems or am I going to be taking on more than I can handle? I'm not very mod savvy so bear with me.

Ebay kit is a fun mod. Looks great under the hood and can get decent gains in SC models. I'd do the 74 mm upgrade, Eurocharged Tune, and Ebay intake for a decent boost in power!

Thank you for your reply. Will I have to worry about the heat soak if I do the ebay set up? I would like the gain in power but can't bring myself to buying the needswings just yet...

You say eBay intake, if that is the one with the filters inside the engine bay then it is not the preferred set up by a long way. We would call this a hot air intake - no good. On an SRT it is definitely not good as there is enough heat to get rid of already.
The OEM setup takes air from in front of the radiator and that is not by chance. Why would you want to modify the intake system and feed it hot air? It would be counter productive to say the least, it looks like crap anyway, of course it is all in the eye of the beholder.

You can order enough parts from Summit Racing to assemble a low budget true single CAI for around $150.
That's 3" pipes, couplers, hose, clamps and a filter.

More air is better when talking about forced induction. Restriction is the enemy! If you can let more air in, it won't matter if it's a little bit warmer. Ofcourse Cold air is better air, but not at the cost of restriction. The heat made at a turbo or supercharger is magnified exponentially by restriction. More so by a turbo attached to exhaust manifold, but air is only as cold as the hottest part in the chain.

With my car being the NA that it is would it be better to do a single or a dual CAI? I mean I personally like the look of the dual one better, and although I agree the ebay set up isn't good looking at all I would like to modify it to still suck air from the front of the car not pull hot from the engine bay. Is Syfi's DIY intake one of the best DIY out there?

No, maxcichon's is by far the best DIY DCAI.
A dual for an NA is big time overkill, unless you are looking for the balanced bling appearance.
