Default Knock and play on steering.

I have just joined.

I have a 55 Roadster.
I recently curbed it in an effort to miss a tractor. I now have a slight knock on full lock to lock.
The car also appears to wander ( perhaps I am imagining it).

Can anyone tell me, is it normal to have 1 or 2 inchs of play on the steering wheel whilste at a stand still?
I suspect the the universal joint ( I had the exact same ploblem on a Volvo.

Doug

There should be no play in steering box or leankage at rest. Get the car to your main dealer ASAP..no point taking risks and driving with damaged steering.
