I've read that the problem with an after market grill that looks like the Bentley grill's is that there is no opening to let your hand through (unless you sunk the grill back and didn't keep it flush with the front, which looks weird, IMO, when its sunk bank a couple inches) to get to the latch to lift the hood up. So i was taking a break from work and i was looking at an eclipse and i saw it had HOOD PINS. And that seemed like a solution to the problem. Remove the latch mechanism and still hood pins above the lights (keep them inline with the turn signals or something to look good). So you can get the after market grill AND some hood pins to make your crossfire look better. =]

There is no problem accessing the hood release lever - it's above the grill.
You pop it open from inside, and the hood release off the first latch, then you slide your hand in between the hood and the grill.
Hood pins (IMO), for real racers (drag/autocross) or ricers.

This info is correct...

Look closely at the hood latch area when you pop it from inside. It allows only about an inch of lift. On the standard grill there is an open area above the first rib at the top. The back edge is cut away to allow your fingers to release the hood latch.

The only other thing that can be done is a cutaway. Don't know how that would look. The post that had the Sema SRT6 used a "chicken wire" style grill that set back like the original speedster.

I suppose the hood pin solution might work. However, I personally want to retain the original mechanism. There was a picture of a grill that had the mesh and also had a heavy chrome surround. The surround followed the shape of the hood "wing" and most did not like it.

That grill design would most definitely have the problem I am talking about. If anyone actually bought the grill, perhaps they can comment.
I have written Burtman to see how they solved the problem with the hood latch. Checking it out closely, this looks like it just might be a photoshop edit. Check the corners and edges of the grille. The chrome of the grille doesn't 100% match that of the "wing". Your opinions?

 

Looks a bit Photoshoppy to me, but it could be a rough prototype, but if they had the real thing you think they would have some nice close-up pictures of it.

 

Forum member 'rjreiser' has that grill. In fact, that is his car in the photo.

I believe the way they got around the hood latch issue is this:
Look at the top of the grill, notice how the wide chrome strip outlines the wing.
I'm guessing that above those curves/outline of the chrome strip is just air.
Threfore, when you pop the hood (interior hood latch), the hood raises a little giving you enough room to get your hand in there to undo the latch completely.

 

OK, I stand corrected, the fit looks a little odd in the picture though.

 

Personally I don't like the look of it - too flat - each to their own.
Makes the front of the car look like it has a smiley face with the chrome surround on the mesh

 

Just got a reply from Jason Burtman. "This grille have been completed many months ago. There are no issues and fit is great."

This looks like the only mesh grill on the market.

 

Jason from Burtman followed up with another email with a series of photos showing the grille from several angles. It is the real thing and not just a photoshop picture.

It appears that the number one objection was the chrome surround around the grille. I am posting the pics that jason sent and did a bad job (only have Windows Paint) on replacing the chrome surround with matching paint (or perhaps matte black) what do you all think?

I'm told that the mesh grille we sell may not work on the SRT6 model Crossfire. Do you think it would be hard to mod it and make it fit? I don't have any SRT6's in my area to look at, and have someone asking if they could "make it fit" a SRT6?
