Default Is rebadging legal?

I was thinking of taking all of the Crossfire / Chrysler emblems off and replacing them with Mercedes and AMG badges. Then it struck me, aren't the police going to get a bit suspicious WHEN then give me a ticket and my owner's card says Chrysler and the car says Mercedes?

Just kicking the idea around in my head...

VIN # is the official information.
Badges are not.
Simple answer - DON'T GET A TICKET!!!

It isn't illegal, but it could cause your next traffic stop to be a more lengthy one. I'm sure the officer won't mind getting to know you better...

When they run the plates they get a year/name/color for the car basically whatever you register the car as at the DMV.

Also don't rebadge it as a benz...the worst I've done was put a Powered by Mercedes-Benz emblem underneath my spoiler because that's what it is "Powered by Mercedes". An AMG badge probably isn't too bad but don't put the 3-pointed star on there, you'll be laughed at.

It is not illegal at all. The worst that will happen is you might get hassled until they figure it out. Ask anyone who has ever built a kit car. In the late seventies I built replica Porsche Speedster on a '63 VW pan. I once sat handcuffed on the curb for about a half hour by the LAPD until they figured out it wasn't a real Porsche. The registration I handed the cop was for a 1963 VW.

Thinking is dangerous and to some confusing.

Provided you don't change the VIN's you should have no problem.

Boy would I be in trouble if this were true.

But as much as they're trying to strip our rights from us. It's still America, and I think we are still allowed some personal freedoms.

But those poor souls who bought a Ford 500 (which is now a Taurus) are going to have some "explaining" to do.

Anyone remember the kits that turned your VW Bug into a Rolls Royce?

That's a funny question ... LOL. No, it doesn't matter. Just so long as you aren't removing smog and/or safety equipment, you'll be fine. You can put Viper emblems on it if you like - Or really mix it up, and put something completely off-brand on it. :-)

You might get in trouble if you tried to sell it as a Mercedes...

I say go for it! I am actually thinking of doing the same. Change the wheel caps, rebadge over the Chrysler symbols. My plate says "BBY BNZ". To hell with the people who laugh. I am proud that is more Benz than Chrysler! There, I've said my 2 cents worth.

Mercedes didn't get into trouble for trying to sell them as Chryslers!

You guys are too funny. Thanks for all of the replies.

What I think I'm actually going to do is put the "V6 Kompressor" badges on the fenders and an AMG badge opposite the SRT6 badge on the tail.

I agree with whoever posted above, I am prouder that it is more Mercedes than Chrysler. Maybe it's my age, but the first thing I think of when I think Chrysler is the K car! LOL.

I like my Crossfire emblems the best in the wing I still get people every day asking who makes this car! Since Chrysler designed it with AMG and Benz and it's 90% german parts and assembled by Karmann, I think any or all is OK if you look at the door label it says all this on the original sticker except of course not AMG.

Hell yeah, as long as she is of legal age of consent.
