Need ideas Crossfire with a wheelchair
Since February my bride has been increasingly ill. She does seem to be turning a corner but will be quite some time before she could be described as well. My question is, if there would be any way to carry a wheelchair on the back of a roadster? Wierd question but before she became ill, she and I had planned a trip back to the northeast this fall in the roadster. In many ways we would like to still do so. She does need the chair. Maybe we will just have to take her SUV. Bummer.
Sorry to hear of her health. Hopefully she gets better soon. But,, I don't see how you can haul a wheel chair in the roadster, unless you use a bike rack.
Vicar, first I want to join FP with the hope that your wife has a speedy recovery.
As for the wheelchair question, I think I'd look for someone who could fabricate some sort of "custom" trailer hitch to pull a very light weight trailer to haul the wheelchair and luggage as well.
There is a photo of someone who already has a trailer on the forum, so it can be done.
I think pulling a light weight trailer would be far more desirable than adding weight to the extreme rear of the car, which would effect the cars balance and its handling.

Dear friends, the trailer idea has some merit. My older brother could probably fabricate something like in the photo. thanks for all the well wishes. I have enjoyed being a part of this august group. The Crossfire has been a good way to relieve some stress these past months.
Vicar, my father has been in a wheelchair for the past 53 years & they do have folding chairs available. I don't mean just the ones that collapse (they all do that!) but actually fold in half once you remove the leg rests, arm rests & collapse it. It might be worth doing some searching around & see if you can find one. Do a search for Everest & Jennings & you'll have a bunch of links pop up!
Many of todays' chairs are very lightweight (aluminum & such) & wouldn't be an issue in our cars.
Best wishes for the missus!!!!
