i really like the rear diffuser look , but i will not pay $200.00 for 2 pieces of plastic ! does any one know of any alternatives ?

 

Sure, I know of an alternative. Not having rear diffusers.

 

I ordered mine (yes, $200!) only because I'm a little flush with cash. But I feel your pain.

A real smart/handy person could order a set, make a spray-foam mold, and start fabbing them out of fiberglass.

Then send them back (within 30 days and a 20% re-stock fee).

BTW- I had dreams about the girl in your avatar ever since I saw that episode of Star Trek when I was about 10 years old!

I'm glad I'm not a big fan of the "Confuser" look as I call it. The price is simply ridiculous for two pieces of plastic.
I guess it's a good thing I'm content with the alternative.

 

Just be patient and look for a used set. That's what I did.

 

You can make a set but I am sure after you spend all the time and the money on materials creating a mold and making the diffusers you would have significantly more than $200 in it.

Or you can just take some popsicle sticks and paint them to match your car and make a ghetto diffuser.

 

Call me crazy, but I honestly don't think it's a bad deal even at MSRP. It IS just two pieces of plastic, but it DOES truly transform the look of the rear, in a tasteful fashion, and once installed, they blend with the OEM bumper and even look like a factory option.

If you think $200 is a rip-off, try buying parts from Hamann, Wald, AC Schnitzer, Saleen, etc.

Finally, you have to take into consideration the demand of the parts (There aren't too many Crossfires on the road to begin with; only a small fraction buy the diffusers) and the tooling costs must be passed onto the customer.

This isn't a garish, in-your-face Honda body kit that will be tooled/molded ONCE and sold globally hundreds of thousands of times (think Mugen).

It's a tasteful, OEM looking application for a tasteful, beautiful vehicle. Makes sense to me. The fact that an owner of such a fine auto would gripe about such a thrifty modification indicates to me that the car is out of the owner's class to begin with. No offense...

A hack job might save you $75, but...

You can print out a photo of the diffusers and tape them to the back of your car for around $10 (laminated) That will give you the optical illusion that you have them and it will save you $190!

Price, price, price...Worth, worth, worth. Value, value, value. I like the diffusers. Until I decide on a color I've decided to hold off on buying them. Think about it. A license plate surround is....$50.00. How much are those lighted sill guards? $400.00+ How much is a Portercable buffer with supplies? $200.00+.. How much is that California wine you like so much? $50.00? How much to fill the tank with 93? Yeah it's plastic. All petroleum derivatives. The shipping will cost me 20% of the price of the diffusers. What are they worth. I like them, and that was before I saw diffusers on a Ferrari.

If they are as easy to install as everybody says, then they are also just as easy to remove... Borrow a set from a 'generous' Crossfire owner in the dead of night. Install them on your car in such a manner that they are EXTREMELY difficult to remove!!!
Or, a second option would be to have somebody 'accidentally' rear end you, then when it's ion the body shop tell them the diffusers broke and fell off in the accident.

 

Careful, you may futher upset the sensitive feelings of maxcichon with your "internet kidding" lol.

Anyway, you can find the diffusers for under $200. I think that is cheap for a nice appearance mod.

I still think printing out the photos of them is the way to go
