Default Tired of "close calls"

So I know we are fairly small cars and do not always get noticed quite as quicly as a large car or truck especially when stopping.
A couple of weeks ago I had a close call when a woman in a Lexus was not paying attention and almost rear-ended th XF while I was waiting to make a left turn...that goodness we can go 0-60 damn quick, as I got out of her way as she slid to a stop in the space where I was waiting. Close call.
Today I added one of the adjustable third brake light pulsers to the SRT6. I had to get the one with the adjustable settings since six flashes seemed appropriate .
I was a bit concerned it might set off the "bulb failure warning light" but it does not so that worked out well.
Just a brief drive and I noticed people in the cars behind me noticed the pulsing light MUCH more than tha standard on-off light.
I think it will help and it was a very easy install for anyone wanting to add a pulser.

you should go out and ride a motorcycle sometimes, it almost feels like you're one of the ducks people are shooting at the fair with the bb guns, thank god they can't shoot worth a ****.

on the motorcycle i have started rapid tapping the brakes 5 times before stopping or turning and somehow this habit has moved into my cage driving as well.

These a have been on ambulances for years and are just starting to go mainstream. Too bad that in MN, you cannot have a pulsating light on any vehicle between 1,000 and 5,999 GVW that is not an emergency vehicle or escorting another qualified vehicle(oversized load, ect) so that pretty much means only motorcycles and semis up here. They do work though. Flashing lights grab your attention quicker and allow you to react jsut a tad faster. Sometimes, that's all the difference between an accident and a 'whoa that was close'.

Great idea... which one did you get and how was the install?

Speaking of visibility and motorcycles, there's a reason why you can't shut off the headlights on modern motorcycles.. it's a safety feature. Unfortunately not all motorcyclists know that it's proper to use the high beam in the daytime because the low beam isn't visible enough.

This surely would help a low profile car like the crossfire to run high beams in the daytime full-time. Now, how to wire one of the standing/parking light positions so that it burns high beam only...

I bought from this seller - I got the adjustable one.
http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/tjrt19...Q_fromZQQ_mdoZ

Install was very easy. I removed the trim from around the rear window, spliced in to the light wire, and mounted the flasher in between the glass and the frame with velcro.

It doesn't matter what size of car you're driving or what you put on it , if someone isn't paying attention they are going to almost hit you or hit you. I was in my old MB 300E which is much bigger than my Crossfire and I was rear ended at a traffic light.

There are limits of course. But I know that with the flashing light I get noticed a lot more when stopping - I can see drivers notice the light. In fact most people seem to stop farther back than the usual foot from the bumper.

At the last meet I had comments at how much more noticable stopping was.
It is worth the very small price.

I have them on 2 of my cars - I have had the police behind me a few times me and I did get pulled over once but nothing about or mentioning the 3rd brake light.

Also it only pulses a few times and then it is on steady.

I put the same thing on the motorcycle and noticed that it seems people stop farther away from the bike. I pump the brake lights (In my M/T car) 3 or 4 times when I see a car pulling up behind me. Notice a difference in the speed that cars pull up behind me. Not always, but its a start.

People on their cell phones don't seem to notice anything. The majority of my close calls are cell phone talkers.

neither do drunk "people"(not getting into races). I had a guy total my 97 cobra, with a 4 door f150 4x4. Sitting at a red light, next thing I know 100 ft past intersection, and he was going fast enough to lock my rear tires in between the rear fender. no insurance, and an address in brownsville tx. which is just a little drive from southwest missouri. chris

It will not prevent everything that is for sure.....it is a light not a force field.

Every little bit helps.

The back of my 04 sportster has all the lighting I can find = BRIGHT..yet people still dont notice you. Ive installed a pulsating headlight flasher into my high beam and it has saved me a few times Im sure. An old biker told me to just think of it this way; "you are invisible to most cages (cars) and everyone that CAN see you wants to run you over". A little extreme but good mental conditioning that keeps you on point.

I use to sit at stop lights in my Geo metro and really sweat being rear ended but not so much in my crossfire

The last 2 years I was rear ended twice, once in my wife's Grand Am and in my friends car. Both times were teenage girls on their cell phones! Glad you avoided it!

Chicks with cell phones are pretty good shots! Yamaha VMAX. I did consider air horns and strobes. Went so far as to buy the damn things. The air horns are ugly and the strobes are illegal as hell, but I'd rather get a ticket than a coffin. The aesthetics have held me back though.
