Default Cleaned up the front end a little

I needed to repaint the front bumper and decided to shave the stupid side marker lights while I was at it. Then I said "what the hell" and painted the cheap bare plastic looking stock grille. Now the front bumper is clean and the grille is as it should've been from the factory...body color with silver highlights.

I could be wrong... but I think they were there for a reason.

Not real clear on Nevada DOT regs though.

I'm with Opti here, hope you are able to pass inspection next year ! However I do like the looks of the smooth clean side and color matched grille, that is sharp !

I like the way you did the grille with your color of car, but on other colors it may not look as good. I wouldn't try that on my Blaze red personally.

Yours turned out well. James

There is no "inspection" here in Nevada...all you have to do is pass smog every year and even that has no inspection (you only fail if you are throwing 2 or more check engine codes).

ou can have it both ways with the black car. If mine was black I would've shaved the lights...then drilled 6-8 very small holes and put LEDs in them. That way it looks completely shaved until you turn your lights on. It would look stupid though on a light color car like mine since the holes would stand out.

Moparrbust, I think it looks great. Are you going to do the same to the rear side markers?

Yes; as soon as it needs to be repainted...or if I get bored at work again.

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. I cut out pieces of a Lexus bumper (that was made out of PPE) and plastic welded them in place then used a thin coat of bumper filler ("bondo" for bumpers) to smooth everything out. It took me many hours to get it just how I wanted it and I feel it shows in the pictures....and even better in person.

Nice work! I've been wanting to paint the grill on my alibaster coupe for some time now. Looks like I'll have to get busy.

That's good and bad. Good because you can shave amber side markers... bad because there's nothing to ensure the 1987 Chevy Astro van behind you has any brake pads left.

Really like what you have done! I agree with the others on painting the grille - depends on the color of the car - but I think it would work on my grapite roadster. Nice idea - thanks

I don't mind it (as long as I'm uninjured)...if somebody wrecks into the back of my car I make money and get to modify it the way I want.

Here's a short "Chrysler" marker light history lesson.

http://www.allpar.com/model/charger-sidelights.html

What I found disturbing is someone thought the 68 style markers weren't that good looking. I always thought they were the nicest looking marker lights ever.
Of course side marker lights are there for a reason (to make a car more visible from the side) but our rear tail light actually servers double duty as a side marker also.
I doubt if the accident statistics went down for side impact crashes in 1968 as opposed to 1967 (when there were no side markers).
Personally I always though it was just another case of the "Feds" chipping away at our personal freedoms.
