Default New Headlights

I went to the dealer yesterday afternoon to find out about the guy who is supposed to sand and buff the original headlights. This was my 3rd attempt trying to hook up with this guy. He wasn't available and they didn't know when he would be coming in as he is an independent contractor. I happen to stick my head into the service managers office to say hello. He asked why I was there. I explained the situation. He asked if I was still under 3/36 waranty. He proceeded to tell me that they could be buffed out. I told him that I had already sanded them twice and buffed them out and the the problem was on the inside.

He stood up and said come with me. We went to the parts department. He yelled at the parts guy and told him to order me a new set of headlights.

I got to tell you that I was impressed. I can't wait to see the SRT with nice new clear shiney headlights.

PS I have 34,200 miles or 1,800 miles left or 5 months of waranty left, which ever comes first.

Well when you get your car back can you let me know the part numbers of the replacement ones, from your work order/repair order so that I can get mine done as well, my waranty runs out in June.

Had the brand new lights put in today. All I could say was awesome. They make the SRT look like a brand new car.

When I got home my wife walks up to the car to say hello and I stopped her and abruptly said, "Did you see the new headlights?"

She walked to the front of the car and said, "How come they are foggy?"

Talk about bummed out. I jumped out of the car and sure enough half the drivers light was fogged and a quarter of the passenger light was foggy.

I called the service manager at the dealer immediately. He said that the lights had a TSB and to bring the car back for the tube.

This is why the lights look so bad after a few years and all the sanding and polishing in the world will not fix this problem. The inside condensation can not be fixed.

I examined the top rear of the light and there is a black tape over two rectangular openings each a 1/4 " x 1/2"..

I'm supposed to pick up the roadster tomorrow with new headlights too. The service manager said he would install the "condensation kit" at the same time. I can't wait to see the bill. Under warranty, but it's always a bit of a shock to see the cost on some of these items!

Boy, you got that right. I feel very fortunate after reading about some of the horror stories here. I sat with the service writers for an hour, waiting for the Enterprise lady (car wouldn't start!) and asked them if they were boning up on Fiat cars. Got some gig a$$ laughs.

Carl Gregory CJD in Columbus, GA. Pretty good folks. Who do you see in Atlanta?

I was wondering if either of the 2 of you who got new headlights were able to keep the old assembly? I am still in need of a replacement bulb retainer clip and and refuse to pay for a new assembly.

I'll ask for them today. You do mean the little wire springs, right?

Yes that is exactly correct. Let me know, it would be a big help.

Scott Weber,
I have 2 clips. PM me.
The new lights look great! But I don't think I'll drive it until I get xPel covers for them.

I use Steven Rayman CJD in Union City.
I first brought the car in to them because my left side running light was out. If you'll remember, we bought the car from Grapevine (who were outstanding in the delivery of the car). We noticed the problem somewhere in Louisiana. I figured it was just a bulb, so I waited until we got home in Georgia. I swapped bulbs and it was stll out. Took it to Ron Stone at Steve Rayman CJD. They figured it was a light board. So, they ordered one and I cam back the next day. Installed the board and the problem was still there. They spent a considerable amount of time and finally found a torn wire (some sort of varmite/rodent) had chewed through a harness during it's yearlong sojourn at Grapevine. Since it was an act of nature, they covered the diagnostics under warranty and only $40 for the techs's time. I thought it was a fair solution. I'll go back.

A couple of things.

Does anyone need one of these: S. Weber is getting one of them.

And I wasn't aware of how much shinier the projectors on the new housing are:

Yeah, the complete assemblies. I noticed last week there was a spot about the size of my little fingernail directly in front of a turn signal lamp that was discolored at certain angles. I always keep them highly polished, so my service dude ordered new ones. (2). since they are different from the ones being replaced, I don't see how only one could be swapped.

And they ARE a whole lot shinier, aren't they? And the eyebrow reflectors are mirror finish instead of matte like the old ones too!

Jeez, there shouldn't be any flak about fixing the seats-it's friggin' winter. If it were my wife, she would crucify anyone who denied her touche warmers!

The #'s from the new lights are:

Drivers A 193 820 2761

and

Passenger A 193 820 2861

Best of luck, and take no prisoners. The liberals will make you release 'em!
