I'm assuming you mean 21% or 8%?

I wasn't aware they made those percents, only 20% and 5%(limo tint)..I could be wrong though!!

BUT, check your state laws. How much are you willing to risk getting tickets, etc. If tint is illegal 8% is nearly impossible to see through so you'll attract more cops, any reason to pull you over they will.

That said, I have 35% on my car and it's barely noticeable. I'm going to go with 20% in a few weeks and get it re-done. In Michigan the driver/passenger window cannot have any tint except for 4" from the top of the window. Hoping I don't get any tickets. My brother has 5% all around on his grand prix GTP and he doesn't even drive through a local city around here because they know his car, and they give him a ticket every time.

Re: Tints

Yeah I agree with you,

I dont think its worth the hassle, prolly get the 21% in the front and 8% in the rear lil ones and hatch.

I wish they had a 15%

thx

Re: Tints

I put 35% (legal) on my car this weekend.
Not much of a difference.

Better to go with what's legal than have to pay to get the tint taken off. Just another reason for "the man" to pull you over too.

Not sure if my previous post is clear or not.. but here in Michigan at least, it's just a ticket. No points, nothing. You just have to go to the city and pay the $125. Some people think that's worth a ticket here and there to keep their car looking how it is with tints, imo much better.

I think I'd be able to handle 1-3 tickets a year, but if I was getting them weekly then i'd take it off. MANY MANY cars here are driving around with 5% all around, so must not be a lot of tickets for having tint.

You have to remember that if they are not legal you will not pass inspection. Here in Jersey we can't have any tints on the drivers and passengers windows and if you do they fail you at inspection and make to take the tint off and go through inspection again.

Re: Tints

How hard is it to remove tint? When I bought my '04, it already had a dark tint (I'm guessing it's 5% because you can barely see through it during the day, and for me it's dicey at night to try to see through the glass.

While it is a godsend here in TX (keeps the interior nice and cool), we plan to eventually return back east, where I know the tint could cause a problem. I'd rather deal with re-tinting than having to sit by the roadside getting yet another ticket.

Re: Tints

I have 20% on all my cars, I would not go 5%, 20% is hard enough sometimes to see out of at night I can't imagine 5% .

I never heard of 21% or 8% .

Not all states have inspection... here in Michigan we don't.. it's nice being able to do anything to your car :D (well.. kind of)

Another reason not to live in Jersey..

Re: Tints

You are lucky. Inspection is the reason I am hestiatant to tint my windows or change my exhaust. If I do those things they would make me change it to pass inspection. Aside from that jersey isn't a bad place to live, for the most part.

Re: Tints

5% is very hard to see out of at night and is dangerous to put on front windows. Where I live the limit is 50%, and that's only for passenger windows and the rear window. There's a 2.5% tint out there also. 20% is only legal in a few states. Southern states are the most forgiving due to the hot sun heating up your cars interior.

Window tint is very easy to remove. If you happen to get pulled over and the police men tests the tint with a light gun and you fail, in some cases he will make you peel it off before you can move your vehicle and may give you a fine. There used to be a spray on tint but I don't know what happened to that. The film is a pain to install.

Re: Tints

I have 5% all the way around and my whole windshield is 35%. I'm guessing that something similar to what BrianBrave has because it looks like his windshield is tinted too. Also I'm pretty sure the windows come 70% from the factory, so you would have to take that into consideration. This means if you put 5% over that it would really be 3.5%. I've been pulled over many times and the tool they use has said anywhere from 2% to 4%, although this is very illegal in New York I was burned badley and have skin graphs so I "can't be in the sun", and I have a sticker from the DMV that allows me to have whatever tint I want. Anyway just go with what you think looks best and what you're willing to deal with for visibilty at night. Good Luck!

You paid money to get a fantastic car, and you take great care of it - why would you want to hide your proud self behind tinted glass? :)
