Are there any other tail light options out there other than the film?

if you are serious about doing LED tail lights it is doable but it will cost some good money

you can use some real nice leds and get boards and do retrofits on them

you will seperate the lamp probably having to cut it and then make a circuit board and install a set of led along with resistors. then you will have to clear the lens if it is flutted and respray with a light color or leave clear and then mount the circuit board in place. you will need to wire up relays and then get the trigger you neeed for brake, signal or reverse.
