Default Instrument lights

I have a section of my instrument panel that doesn't light up. Has anyone replaced the lamps in the cluster. If so how hard is it and do you have the P/N of the bulbs.

I don't have instructions available however a search of the forum I'm sure will turn something up for you. I just wanted to share with you an old trick my mechanic told me about many years ago.
We had a 1994 Volvo 850 and the instrument lamps including console were burning out every other month...very annoying. He suggested adjusting the dimmer control from 100% brightness to say around 98% brightness. We did, and NEVER replaced a bulb for the following 15yrs we owned the car. True! I have since adjusted the dimmer down in both my wife's '09 Volvo S60 and of course, my Crossfire.

BTW, the same thing applies around the house. Have you ever noticed that lamps on dimmers last much longer then lamps on switches.

I looked up the instructions in the Maint. manual. You have to remove the cluster. The steering wheel has to come off first. Maybe it is covered under warranty.

I never keep the panel lights turned up.

ascharger,

Did you find anything else in the forums? The red section of my fuel gauge is completely out and the 260km/h section of my speedo is dim. My 2007 is still under warranty, but the dealer is giving me a hard time. They first replaced the bulbs, now the entire cluster, the affected areas are still not lighting up. The dealer now tells me that this is the way it is supposed to be (they compared it to another one in for service).

Thanks,
Matt

This happened to me too. You dont need to take the steering wheel off. I replaced my lights behind the spedo. It took me a hour to get everything out and put back together. Its not hard just time consuming.
